Frost, Foster, and Fortt next year...

why would a player going in to his senior year in 2013 have even a smidgen of a negative effect in this class?
Posted on 7/26/12 at 7:13 pm to jsmoove
Fortt wouldn't be a Senior this year, I don't think...

2013. he'd only have 1 year of eligibility left when this class comes in, which is my point

Well, frick...

Auburn has not offered Penn State junior linebacker Khairi Fortt according to a team source with knowledge of the situation. The source said Auburn has no interest in pursuing Fortt.

his dad is a raging liar then if true

I want him. He's better than a lot of what we have at linebacker. Frost, Foster, and Fortt could make a damn good corp next year if we brought him in.

He hasn't really done much so far at Penn St. Isn't even a fulltime starter

He's had more competition to get on the field. We really can't even say we have a good player at linebacker right now. Bates is Bates, Holland is Holland, and .... Pretty much nothing behind that. I hope Frost and McKinzy can make some plays for us.

I'll take Bates over Fortt. We're building quality depth at LB. I don't think he's a big need.
However if they had a talented Junior/Senior right tackle, I'll gladly take him.

I'd rather a guy like Cass, Frost, or Garrett get more PT without Fortt so they can get better, than Fortt come in and be an average LB for two years

We've gotta have someone step up and take the responsibility of playing LB full time over the next couple of years. Taking Fortt, in my opinion, would do nothing but set us back.

very underrated imo.
People are knocking his foot work and delivery, but F that kid can sling the ball with precision. The feet and delivery is for the NFL scouts to worry about not us

And Loeffler will work on that with him. You can teach that. You cant really teach the other.

I'm obviously in the minority here, but it doesn't matter to me...
First and foremost, I'd prefer BVG come in and completely change our defense back to pre-Ted Rood years.
Second, I'll take Khari Fortt any day of the week based on our linebacker play last season. Jake Holland looked overwhelmed and we're not sure what to expect from him. Daren Bates has shown he likes to simply hit opposing players more than make tackles, and he's a Senior this year. John Evans and Chris Landrum are "meh", IMO. Anthony Swain, Kris Frost, and Cassonova McKinzy have talent, but we have to see what they can do in gametime. Fortt has been getting better coaching since he enrolled at Penn State, without a doubt (until this year, when Ted Roof arrived).
Next year, we are potentially looking at this (no particular order):
OLB - Kris Frost, Anthony Swain, Javy Mitchell
MLB - Reuben Foster, Jake Holland, Cassanova McKinzy
OLB - Justin Garret, Anthony Swain, Trey Johnson
And I wouldn't mind having Fortt at the OLB position opposite Frost.

That's an outdated assessment of his play, IMO. He was remarkably improved last year, night and day difference from his sophomore year.
Is he spectacular? No. But he is solid and will be a leader, which is something this defense sorely needs.

Cass will not be 3rd string in 2013. If Foster lives up to the hype, I expect Cass to move outside. That's where he played in HS along with DE
