I just think it's laughable that our coaches insist that there's still a QB battle. Nobody's close to Frazier.
I agree, but then my sources have been wrong before. I have a text into them now and will pass on any info I get. I really feel I may have said too much already.

according to Dye, Kiehl is the only qb on the roster with a chance to make it.
I have to agree with him...
Malzahn recruited some good quarterbacks to The Plains, but things happened and they ended up elsewhere. Cam Newton made the jump to the NFL after an oustanding year, Tyrik Rollison couldn't keep his grades, and Kiehl Frazier is just now getting a shot.
Clint Moseley and Barrett Trotter just weren't SEC caliber quarterbacks. We only took Moseley to add depth during Chizik's first class, and Trotter was the only quarterback that Tuberville took in the 2008 class because it seemed like he basically gave up with recruited. DeRon Furr moved to safety, and then later out the door.

fwiw my sources are saying Pike has made a surge since summer workouts started and is pushing Frazier hard for the starting job.

Take a look at my post history. I never once discredited Cam or his ability. If anything, I wanted him to waste away at Mississippi State. I saw how good he was in JUCO and I certainly didn't want him at Auburn.
When it comes to evaluating QBs I give an honest assessment. I may not hold much sway on this board, but people do respect my QB evals. I give them regardless of fan affiliation. I've given many evals on QBs not interested in Alabama and have yet to be called out on any sort of favoritism.

I know he is just doing his job, but some have hinted that he has some animosity towards AU. Anyone here with the scoop?

I am preparing to do an analysis of Pike in a few minutes to see if this info you posted is plausible or not.

Cam looked pitiful in the spring game, there's no way in the world Malzahn would give the starting job to him over Neil Caudle. Mechanics were all wrong and he couldn't hit the broadside of a barn if he tried.
-TideSaint on after AU spring game 2010, sorry it's on the Coaching Changes Board so you can't look it up at the moment.

Word from here is, among other things, he pulls the race card

I wouldn't bother with that, Loeffler is keeping him on the D.L. to throw Clemson off.
And no, Brannigan, D.L. isn't the defensive line.

He can recognize a spiral. He can recognize when a QB steps into his throws. He can read stat lines.
He throws out generic terms like "throwing mechanics, footwork, and decision making."
He is a guru.

I just received a text back that actually Wallace may have a leg up on starting position. Sounds like you are getting bad info.

So you pulled a post I made on Auburns spring game? I was speaking about tangible evidence that was obvious given Cams performance during that game. It has nothing to do with how I felt about Cams ability. Hell, if you want to bring up spring games from 2 years ago you will find that I thought Philip Sims performed much better than AJ in that setting.
It was a spring game. It was in no shape, form, or fashion indicative of Cams ability.

That's unfortunate if true. The latter part of the Bowden era was filled with controversies though, so maybe that is part of his thinking.

You don't think we'll take four? We lose 6 guys on the DL after 2013. Maybe 5 if Lemonier goes early. Still, that's a lot for one year.
Bryan Matthews has said he believes we'll be done with the DL if we get Adams.
I tend to believe it just based on numbers. We'll have about 16 DL this fall, with no seniors. Say Lemonier doesn't go to the NFL, and we sign 4 this year. We'd have 20 DL on the roster. Seems a bit much...
