"When we visited Alabama in April," Bateman said, "the moment we drove onto campus I can honestly say I just had that feeling in my gut. I said I could really see myself being here, kind of a home away from home."
quote:
Bateman visited seven schools, and at each of them coaches threw out varying recruiting tactics. Each university had a locker with a jersey bearing his name prominently displayed. Auburn sent him — and his mother — around campus with a set of attractive twin sisters.
"It was kind of weird," he said, "but I guess that’s how they do it."
He added: "Everyone, of course, tried to put on a show. If anything, Alabama did the least of that."

Andrew Bone's weekly recruiting chat is going on right now. I will give an overview when I can.

Cooper Bateman makes it official
Aaron Suttles
It was a great way to start the day for the University of Alabama football program and Crimson Tide fans alike, when the nation's sixth-ranked pro-style quarterback, Cooper Bateman officially announced via prepared statement that he committed to Alabama's 2013 class.
"This has been a great time in my life, I have had the rare opportunity to be able to choose from many great schools that would allow me to get a college degree and continue to play the game that I love. This has been a very difficult decision only because I was able to meet and get to know so many wonderful coaches at so many great universities. I have chosen to attend the University of Alabama. I am honored that I will get to learn from Coach Saban and Coach Nussmeier and will get to represent Alabama, the state and the University. I want to thank my coaches at Cottonwood for all they have done for me and mostly to my parents who have made this all possible."
Bateman's commitment finally gives Alabama the big-time quarterback prospect it's been seeking for the past two classes. A four-star recruit from Salt Lake City, Utah, Bateman is 6-foot-3, 190 pounds.
He visited Tuscaloosa during a week-long tour of schools in the Southeast in early April, and the Rivals250 prospect spoke highly of his time on campus at the time.
"I loved it," Bateman said. "It was cooler than anything I'd seen before that."
During that visit he spent time with AJ McCarron.
"People would come up and be like 'Hey, are you AJ McCarron?' and he handled it so well," Bateman said. "He was awesome, such a cool guy."
Bateman said he fits in perfect in Alabama's offense.
"At my school, they spread it out a lot with four wide receivers and all, but I'm more comfortable under center," Bateman said. "He runs an exciting offense and I'd love to be a part of it.
"You can tell they work," Bateman said. "They know and love each other and it shows, especially on the field."
Bateman is Alabama's 12th commitment for the 2013 class, and the ninth four star or better prospect.

I just watched the videos you posted about Dobbs earlier.
-The guy is definitely a player, I'll give you that. However, he needs a lot of work on his mechanics. I know, I know, Tebow had shitty mecahnics and still won. I'm just sharing my opinion.
-He needs to improve on his footwork.
-Nice arm that would dramatically improve if his mechanics and footwork get ironed out.
-Good athlete
-He looks like a very good player, but I'd still take Bateman over him. Hands down.
Like I said before, if he is willing to come in and compete with another QB, I would love to have him. In fact, out of the possible "other" QBs we might land in this class to be the 2nd QB, I would prefer Jennings and Dobbs. I think they both would bring different skillsets to the table that would compliment Bateman nicely.
Just take into account that this is against Georgia's largest class and the Rising Seniors Bowl MVP was against a West team that featured 2 of the top 3 players in the nation in Reuben Foster and Montravious Adams as well as Trey Matthews and he carved them up.
You have to consider competition when comparing his film to Bateman as the DBs in Utah versus those in Georgia's largest classification is a completely different level of competition.
Don't be surprised if he's the 2nd QB in this 2013 Class.

I'll be shocked if he ends up in the top 5

Well, I lost this one. Something happened to the chat page and I lost all the information I was collecting. It looks like I'm gonna have to give updates when he posts the chat results later.

“I don’t think he’d have a 90 MPH fastball in high school like A.J. McCarron"
Um, no knock off McCarron, but he did not throw 90 mph in high school. I faced him multiple times when I played St.Paul's and he topped out at 85. His hardest clocked was 87 at a show case from the Out Field on a crow hop. One thing Alabama needs to do is recruit kids outside of Tuscaloosa for baseball. It is so annoying because I would have committed there to play baseball if offered, but I signed with UAB and then transferred to Alabama after surgeries. Went from 93 to 88 after getting hurt.

Most of my QB analysis has nothing to do with who they play against in high school. I study the player, not the competition.
I get what you are saying, but it goes both ways. You knock the defenses Bateman has played compared to Dobbs, but on the same token, Dobbs has much better offensive teammates than Bateman. It equals out.
For the third time, I like Dobbs, but Bateman is better.

I would say it depends on who all offers now that we have. Rutgers and WVA, have and I would say we might have a head start on the rest that may come. Would like to see some more current film. His high scool film shows some promise but he also needs quite a bit of work IMHO.

Who all do we need to pass Michigan for the Rec title?
Posted on 5/16/12 at 7:41 pm to Defense
Nkemdiche, Allen, McNeil, and Poggi would get us up there. Add guys such as Matthew Thomas, Maurice Smith, and a few others and we should be #1 easily.

Some crazy chatter on BOL that the commitment of Bateman may lead to the commitment of Robert Foster in the next 48 hours. Not saying I believe it, but if true.....

I feel blessed to have gotten to UA in 2008. I am living in some glory years

That would be awesome. Add to the fact that Allen could be committing this weekend as well. This class is starting to shape up very nicely.
