So we can continue this discussion with the knowledge that you have nothing objective to say about LSU.

I can objectively say that it is a stupid move, not because of a bias towards LSU. I don't care if it was UGA, AU, even Bama. A stupid move it stupid. If you took off your purple and gold glasses maybe you could see how ridiculous this looks. There is a reason that the mainstream media believes it's crazy to have eighth graders commit. Let eighth graders be eighth graders, and stop rushing the process in hopes that it will get you ahead.
Can you say definitively that he will be the best quarterback for LSU in 2018? What if this kid hits a ceiling early and there are three other quarterbacks that are better than him and interested in LSU? What if Cam is no longer there in 2018 and the new OC likes someone else better? Too many unknowns this early in the process.

Actually, I thought it was ridiculous myself until I listened to Matt Moscona's show yesterday. This kid's uncle, Ty Detmer, called in to Moscona's show and talked about it.

You can listen here.
If you think this kid is just like an average 8th grade football player, that's a mistake on your part, not a poor reflection on LSU.

At what point do you draw the line? Eighth grade? Sixth grade?

I expect the LSU recruiting staff to continue to evaluate every recruit on a per case basis. If his parents objected to it, they wouldn't be recruiting him so early.

Perhaps it is my experience that makes me biased, but from my work with eighth graders they are simply not ready to make big life decisions for themselves. There is a reason that eighth graders can't drive, vote, or live on their own. Their decision making skills are suspect at best.
Do you really think he sat down with his parents, laid out all of his options carefully, considered academics and what major he wants to pursue, researched LSU compared to other schools, while also taking into account the offense that LSU runs as well as the depth chart at his position, and then decided to commit?
Or was it a knee jerk reaction of committing to his childhood favorite team? Bama has several players on our team who grew up rooting for LSU, tOSU, Miami, even Auburn. When it came down to committing, Bama was right for them even if they weren't lifelong fans. Similarly I can think of several players who grew up Bama fans, but when it came down to it Bama wasn't the right school for them. There is more that goes into a decision than fandom.
Perhaps my problem is more with parents who allow their child to make a decision before they're mature enough to make it.

I think you're mistaken to assume that he's an average 8th grader.
Regardless, it's a verbal commitment......it's not like he just signed his life away.

Again he is an eighth grader. What harm would it have been for him to wait one year to commit? Would y'all have moved on to another middle schooler?

So was Dylan Moses when Saban offerred him, even though he hadn't actually seen him in camp like LSU had.
What's your point?

Did I not say earlier that I think it was dumb to give him a committable offer (assuming it was) that early? See how easy it is to take off your team glasses and look at something objectively?

Solid meme, but I still don't see the contradiction. Dylan Moses did not commit to Bama as an eighth grader. Guess what? He would still have a spot as a ninth, tenth, eleventh, even as a senior. I am assuming the same would be with LSU. Why rush it?
I still think it's dumb that we gave him a committable offer that early, and I'd still think it's ridiculous if he committed to Bama last year.
Enjoy those purple and gold glasses

While it looks -- and kind of is -- a bit ridiculous, objectively-speaking, it doesn't really make much difference. The kid isn't under any obligation to stick with his commitment and LSU gets to show its dedication early. The worst things that can happen are either he decommits and gets flack from the fanbase (but that'll happen just as easily if he's a junior commit/decommit) or LSU decides to pull his offer because he's not measuring up (and he'll be just as crushed if he committed as a junior.) The final decision doesn't have to come until Signing Day of his senior year, so whatever happens before that will basically be dead air. Doesn't make it look any less ridiculous, but in the grand scheme of things, the actual damage to the kid, LSU, or society is minimal.
Or, to put it another way, if he's already "good" enough to know he's likely to be a top prospect, it wouldn't matter if he committed silently ('As gawd eez mah waytness, ah weel play foah th' Tigahz!') or if he went on the national news to commit. All LSU's acceptance of his commitment means is that he gets a sense of validation. And it's not like LSU isn't taking its own risk -- if they dump him, the PR fallout could be damaging. So if they're willing to take the chance, well....

Explain. I have already said that I don't like that Saban offered Dylan Moses, and I wouldn't like it if Bama got an eighth grade commitment tomorrow. I didn't realize that I had to approve of everything Saban did. But again, I have the ability to take off the fan glasses and look at things objectively. You should try it sometime

I'm going to bookmark this thread just in case this kids turns out to be a badass
The athleticism and measurables for our 2016/17/18 recruits are off the charts. They are physical freaks for their ages. These kids all seem to come from great families where they are in a good environment to grow and excel in. I also think our coaches like the idea of getting them on board early and playing a part in their development while they are in high school and preparing to come to LSU down the line. Its kind of a risk, but like everyone has said...its non binding for both parties.
Also, calling it now. If all of these kids turn out to be successful Saban will next order the NCAA to ban offering middle schoolers
