I used to work for ESPN/SportsTicker at the Dallas Mavericks games. I sent instant messages to them from my laptop every three minutes on the game clock.
When I started the job we had to call them and literally give them the score over the phone.
When I first started working games back in the 80's I had to call them with updates and fax them all of the boxes from each quarter at the end of the quarter. I worked Cowboy games too and had to wait for over an hour after the games to get all of the individual and team stats for offense & defense faxed.
Technology has changed sports reporting like you wouldn't believe.
