I'm just of the opinion that it's very damning to suggest the victim was coerced/forced/had the letter written for her. What was done to her was straight up evil, but to think that any of us knows anything about that girl or her mindset six years after the crime is pretty arrogant.

I don't think Hood was trying to bring back up what he did. Why would he? Remember, he lost all these offers when the news came out. But it's out now, and wherever he ended up, whether it was Tennessee or Carroll College, it would be an issue and would have to be addressed.

Agreed. But you know as well as I that if it would be Carroll College, it is probably a non-story.

I'm betting it wasn't the intention of Hood to have all of this become national news, reopening wounds, and having it debated on sports message boards. But what do I know...maybe he wanted all of that cuz he's an evil POS.
UT is who should really get some backlash for this. BTW...why is nobody hacked off at the high school that gave him a chance to play football?

Yes, I agree. I think the biggest point that all of us could agree on is that all of this is only a drain on the victim, which is what bothers me the most.

Kudos to Fulmer though. Members of Volnation are saying that Hood, who grew up in Kingsport and rooting for the Vols, was also being recruited by Fulmer. But once word of Hood's criminal past hit the university, Fulmer ceased pursuing the prospect.

Yup.
All of the douches talking about bringing plungers to a game, or trying to get on Gameday with them is pretty effing sick.
If you feel so convicted about harassing a sex offender at a football game...IMO, furthering the embarrassment of the victim, just go harass a sex offender on their front lawn somewhere in your neighborhood.

Someone asked a good question yesterday.
If a prospective coach or professor was known to have the identical situation, would the university want to be associated with that person???
The other part is his supposed gay activities. Would you want to share a shower room with this dude or would you want your kid near someone with this past?
Recruit Edwards is looking at TN and AL. Edwards finds out that Hood is perhaps a trouble he would rather not have in his life. The decision to go to AL just got much easier for many recruits in my option. (insert any school for AL really).

I haven't read this thread because you crazy arse SEC ranters scare me but.....
Possible NFL $$$ for the victim one day maybe? It's worth a shot for the victim IMO.
quote:
Hood and another teenager were charged in 2003 with assaulting a 14-year-old girl. The victim's legs and wrists were tied and her eyes and mouth were covered with duct tape before she was raped at the Sullivan County home of Hood's father.

Tennessee received a letter of support for Hood from the victim.

Since when does a 13 year old know wtf he's doing? His parents are to blame. They failed utterly as parents.

This is not necessarily to you GBO86, if I remember correctly you wished Kiff hadn't signed him...
One interesting thing about this whole situation is looking at who's arguing what and what affiliation they have or interest they have in their argument. The ONLY people I see saying "give the kid a second chance, he was only 13, he's served his time, etc." are Vol fans.
Vol fans, when everyone in the country thinks it's a bad idea for you to sign this kid, you might want to rethink your position. Far be it from me to help you guys out in times of trouble, but the obviousness of this has been lost on a majority of your fans. Strictly from a PR standpoint, Tennessee is known for it's trouble makers (It ain't called the Fulmer Cup for no reason). Now, to go and sign a kid that has this kind of past, when Tenn is already known for bad apples, is about the dumbest thing I have ever seen a Coaching staff and Univ Administration do. Trust me Vols, you won't be given ANY cudos for this. If you think your arguments using forgiveness and second chances are going to be effective in changing the ENTIRE countries perspective, you are dumber than I thought. Hell, you may be right about forgiveness and second chances, but the opinion is what it is and this is not the opportunity you've been looking for to improve your reputation. This only further soils it and yet you are going down in flames trying to defend it. It's truly quite remarkable to watch how blindly loyal you are to the decision makers at your University.

and this is from the AJC

OK, TN fans...would you want this guy coaching your child's little league teams?
Should he be held up high as college athletes are by young fans?
Is he a good role model?
Do you tell kids that you can't root for him because of his past?
The downside is too great IMO but what do I know right???

If my 12 year old son (he'll turn 13 in October) did something like that... I would KNOW that it was my fault, not his. Children learn judgement, character and morality from the people they respect and look up to.... and I hope that's "me" where he's concerned.
I've been fortunate that my 19 and 16 year old daughters, and my 12 year old son all consistently make good decisions about drugs, sex, peer pressure, grades, everything. I will take some of the credit for that, and give some to their mother. WE are responsible for ensuring that our kids are a benefit to society, not a hazard.

Let me say this again...
The Victim said...
end of story
I could care less if someone in a TP in Bama thinks otherwise
