When you look at the total picture of all those years, the difference between East and West is not that great. Alabama's run under Saban accounts for pretty much any difference that exists. The West won 19 SEC championship games, but 11 of them were Alabama. The East won 13.
The attrition was not equal for Georgia or Florida, who happened to be at the top of the conference, which is the only reason why. The West was a bloody battle to get to Atlanta.
Coach Saban lost 3 games to the East division in 17 years.

If you want polls to matter, then give teams credit for ranked victories at the time of their playing
bama fans have historically been a group that claims ranked when played counts, but then turns around and wants credit after an unranked opponent climbs in the top 25 towards the end of the season.

Everyone but Georgia fans..you are going the Indiana route, play a very easy schedule with as few ranked teams as possible and save it for the playoffs. It is a very, very boring way but it has shown to work.
Are they giving out trophies for wins in September?
Do they put up banners if you come close in January as you play with an injured roster?
The regular season is dead.
Three years tops... the entire board will realize this.
And AP rankings ONLY mean anything at the end of the season.
The rankings that matter are the playoff committee and they will be out shortly.

Is that why he avoided 2 Power 5 OOC opponents in the same season?
Because the west was too tough (even though their cupcakes will cupcake just like the east)

If you want polls to matter
There just isn't consistent logic with them.
Everyone had Ohio State at 1 or 2 and Texas at whatever spot they didn't have Ohio State going into that game at.
Ohio State lost a close game on the road. I would be fine if some poll left them at 2 behind Texas.
BUT that poll has to consistently apply that logic. There is where the issue lies. Sometimes polls do apply logic that way, and other times the same poll won't.
But ultimately you get more ranked matchups if you do these wild swings so we will always see the media tend more toward that.
