Bringing Alabama all the way back to the top of college football will be the equivalent of scaling Everest! The landscape in the SEC is light years apart from what it was in Alabamas "glory days".

Are you talking about the top of college football, ie competing for West/SEC/NC or the "glory days", ie 60's and 70's? The "glory days" as you call it will never happen for anyone again, imo, because, you are right, the landscape has changed too much. For anyone to get to that level would be like scaling Mt Everest blindfolded. Now, if you are saying that bringing Bama back to competing for West/SEC/NC is impossible, then that is a stupid post. This decade is the only one since their existence they have not. This decade has been the worst in Bama's history. That being said they do have 2/10 win seasons and 1/West that technically wasn't title in that same time frame. Like it or not, believe it or not, care or not, the fact that Bama was made less attractive to top coaches and players due to the sanctions imposed on Bama, add in the fact the guy that is now tearing up a recruiting trail at Bama was doing it at LSU, as well as both AU and LSU having the ability to take kids that normally may have gone to Bama, ie Russell and Williams, all add up to what Bama has gone through the last 8 years. I don't want to hear the '05 thing either. That's what happens when you have a team full of experienced and talented senior leadership (That was the last full class recruited before probation). Call it an excuse if you want but the excuse is a fact. Answer me this, prior to probation in 02, how many west titles did Bama win? How about this, prior to Saban how many west titles did LSU win?

Getting LSU to the promised land was a walk in the park.

Then why couldn't anyone else do it prior to Saban? Dinardo had one good year. So what, so did Shula.
