The Sugar Bowl is a New Orleans institution founded in 1934 but the idea had been promoted since 1927, before the SEC was founded. And in the 1970's when the SEC Champion kept getting shut out of three of the four major New Year's Day bowls (Rose, Orange, Sugar and Cotton) because those bowls wanted a lighter weight opponent for their champions (usually not an SEC team) the Sugar Bowl was the bowl that the SEC decided to tie up with. It was Bear Bryant who helped sell the idea because he said it was the best thing to do for the conference even if it wasn't the best for his team (to be tied down). But it has worked out fine for the SEC and the Sugar Bowl even though the SEC champs have played in more BCSCG's than any other conference and kept the Sugar Bowl from having the SEC champ in most of those years.

And the Superdome has literally been rebuilt from the top down to the floor. It was basically brand new in the fall of 2006 so it's, what, three years old now. The Superdome is still the largest free standing domed structure in the world and the best stadium built in the 1970's and the most versatile. It has hosted Super Bowls, Sugar Bowls, Final Fours, an NFL team , a NBA team, an NCAA team, baseball, the Republican Convention, the Rolling Stones, Pope John Paul II, the biggest annual Mardi Gras post-parade party, motocross, monster trucks, etc.

The Superdome under construction in 1974.

the SuperDome?

I've herd it's kinda rundown compared to the Georgia Dome,

Right, so it's good enough an NFL franchise and for the Superbowl but it's too rundown for the Sugar Bowl. Got ya. Brilliant.

Stick to things you are familiar with and actually know about.
