UGA played a poor game against Bama (defined as being negative in turnover margin, missing a FG, having more penalties and penalty yards and failing on 2 4th down conversions that both led to TD's for Bama).

They lost by 3.

That's why they'd likely still be a favorite over Bama if they played again. Bama played better on the field and won the game. They deserved to be ranked ahead of UGA when the playoffs were selected. But just like in 2021 where Bama won the SECCG where UGA was favored in the rematch, the oddsmakers (and most reasonable football watchers) believe that UGA still had the better team and if both played to their best performances, UGA would win a rematch.

This is the reason why "best team" isn't what gets used for playoff selection even if they say it. On paper, UGA still has the best team this season.

But football isn't about who's the best on paper. The results of games have to matter as well. UGA didn't deserve a playoff spot because of results on the field.

Who cares though? Everyone knows. And we should invite Michigan or Washington to a duel! It’s merely a flesh wound
