Yeah, I think you'll see or hear of few people putting money on the Vols that game.
Posted on 2/8/09 at 11:35 pm to im4LSU
if i were a Vol, i dont think i would even "volunteer" to go to that beat down.

And it's the 3rd game of the season.
The Vols will still be trying to hit on all cylinders.

I don't expect us to beat Florida this year. Not in the swamp with Tebow still there. I don't think any realistic Vol fans do.
But, I do think its amusing how every LSU and Bammer fan on this site is ready to write off Monte Kiffin like he is some kind of joke. We'll see...

It is a fact that in recent years the Tampa 2 had some hellacious trouble against mobile qb's and quick shot pass offenses. I'm pretty sure that most teams in the SEC are capable of running something other than an I formation offense (strength of the Tampa 2). This and the talent level difference will be the demise of Monte and his little boy at UTK........JMPO

This is not a good arguement. So you're saying the Tampa 2 had trouble against some mobile NFL quarterbacks? Besides Tebow, what SEC QB next year would be in that same level per se.
Everyone says he will not have the same talent level on this defense as he did in the NFL. But....news flash....neither will the offenses he's facing. Faulty logic abounds.

LSU will have 2 very mobile qb's. lucky you don't play us,
one of the few mobile qb's left played for TB last season. Tampa Bay has had a great D 3 of the last 5, and a good one 4 of the last 5.

So was last year, with 400+ yds averaged against them per game the lone bad year in the bunch? Hmmm...might be worth a look.

I dnt think anybody anywhere would call Monte Kiffin a joke bt the fact remains that his D is untested at the collegiate level. I think that if given a few years it could be deadly. But as of TODAY they dont have the horses to run it and they also have no experience in it. Thus making it likely that it will not be at Tenn for very long.

it will not work for two reasons:1--it requires linebackers to cover skill postion players.NFL linebackers(most)are athletic enough to pull this off.also, most NFL offenses are so freaking conservative that coaches only have to adjust personnel groupings on third down to get cover guys in the game. 2---NFL offensive schemes do not include running quaterbacks.the tampa 2 is not designed to account for a running qb.anyone(florida for example)that has a running qb will burn that defense.just think about how a running qb burns a def that is in man to man coverage . the tell tale sign will be whether or not multiple quarterbacks have "career"type days against the tampa 2.as i recall, tepper allowed 3-4 opposing QB's in a row to be named SEC player of the week. the tampa 2 works in the NFL because it relies upon the conservative nature of NFL offenses and the extreme athletic ability of NFL linebackers.that combination does not exist in the SEC.i forsee a tennessee "drop linebacker" fiasco much like the one that we experienced under dinardo/tepper.they wont be able to find any linebackers who can cover skill guys on a consistant basis down after down.if they try to insert extra DB's for the LB,it is going to require them to play nickle or dime on every down.i honestly think that most SEC offensive coordinaters are drooling thinking about playing the tampa 2.
