Will the SEC Network have the same success as the BTN?

From wisky board

My best guess is the SEC Network will not have the same level of success that has been achieved by the BTN. Here's why:
1. An unofficial SEC Network has existed for a number of years with ESPNU, ESPN and ESPN2 for football and to a lesser extent for baseball. Why pay for what one gets for free?
2. Interest in the SEC is heavily into one sport: football. Football is not enough to sustain a network for 12 months.
3. Most SEC schools have fewer teams [hockey, wrestling, volleyball, etc.], making coverage the other eight months of the year likely to be less successful.
Your thoughts?

They act like basketball and baseball don't exist.

Already more successful.

Other than forgetting basketball and baseball, they underestimate the interest of football down here.

Does anyone give a shite about the Big 10, seriously, Ohio St was their only real hope and they're dead in the water.

But the TJ Trial is exceptional as is the Capstone club course.
The tooth brush was invented in Alabama, anywhere else it would have been called a teeth brush!

Most successful launch of a cable channel ever. Even with the Comcast hiccup in central Mississippi.

I could see the gameday programs flopping in ratings. I don't see myself watching the channel unless a game is on.

The SEC Network will do very well, and will be successful. But, it may not get the same ad revenue that the B1G does for the simple reason that there are not enough SEC fans compared to B1G fans who watch games on television in the country.
Thread is full of fail

Already most successful conference network launch in history.

They are forgetting about the other big sports in the SEC including:
Football recruiting season
Spring football practice season
Summer/preseason football practice season
This basically takes you year round except for a couple of months in late spring/early summer.

Depends on how you measure success. If it's in terms of money probably not for a very long time. Being tied in with ESPN and not a separate entity will halt revenue for member schools.
It's too early to judge but for now what's difference is there really between non stop football, volleyball games, sec stories specials, baseball games, and then some awful basketball that if we're being honest few people and fans care about. If all people want is football and better access to their team and rivals then so be it. That's quantified success.
If the SEC network is to be successful, they need to redefine the television template BTN has laid out vs reinventing it. Til then, just wait and see.

Hrmmmm, $23M per school added on from the SEC Network is waaaaaay more than BTN and LHN. Is call that more successful already and it will only go up when advertisers start pumping big money into it.

Nope. I might watch one maybe two Big 10 football games all year.

Sec is getting better at basketball.
There are numerous sports/events that will have eyeballs on secn year round. National signing day will probably beat some big 10 games rating wise. Also, dont forget about college fishing.

And which conference had 10 or so teams in the college baseball tournament again? And won the whole thing?

But we make up for it with gymnastics and equestrian.

Oh, and with Alabama winning multiple golf natties, we'll be showing that too. How does a Big 10 school play golf when you can't see the ball due to all the snow?
