Very true, but I really don't care anymore. Let 'em whine. We're on to bigger and better things.
And for those who want Oklahome and Okie Lite - be careful what you wish for. You won't get one without the other, and together they wouldn't bring enough money - just not a big enough state. Everyone's yearly payout would go down. Looking to NCState and VT would be a far better option. That way you'd get 2 new, well-populated states in the footprint rather than 1 state with not many people.

Yes, I doubt Mizzou is excited about making those long hauls to Florida, South Carolina, and Georgia every year.

Simple financial gain.Super Conferences have been discussed for years. These changes are about money. The SEC is too big now for every team to play each other.
If conferences were forming today,do you think State and Vandy would be invited over Texas and OU? Who else in Big 12 will bring tv ratings?
I wish SEC remained at 12 to allow for nore yrly games with conference members.
Once again, don't be surprised to see more changes in college football.I hate it's going this way.
Can State and Vandy compete in football? OU and Texas could compete.

The SEC West should be:
A&M, LSU, Arkansas, Mizzou, Ole Miss, Miss. State,

The SEC East should be:
Auburn, Tennessee, Vandy, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida.
As much as I would like to keep Alabama in the West, that wouldn't work. That would ruin either the rivalry with Tennessee or Auburn. If Alabama were to go to the east, both could be kept intact.

I'm fine with the East too. I think it's better for us right now. I see things changing down the road, but maybe not for many years.

What you are suggesting leaves LSU with former Big 12 and SWC schools and non of the traditional SEC powers.

Bernie Moore - regarding Mizzou being "left out" in your list, i would respectfully suggest that the STL and KC market sizes would have Mizzou gobbled up by one of these giant entities you speak of before a South Carolina or Arkansas or Ole Miss would. For the same reasons that the SEC just gobbled Mizzou up instead of West Virginia.
Yes,love the way Mizzou has 50k fans in their stadium while Carolina with 2 major programs packs in over 80k and Arky brings in over 70k with half the population of Missouri. Same with OU and Nebraska.
College football not that big in state of Missori.
You may have the markets, but they don't watch college football.

tigerboyinhogland - there is one reason and one reason only why that couldn't happen and that is that Bob Stoops is scurred of SEC competition. Or more to the point, he likes his little set up he has now of just needing to beat up on Texas and usually one other decent challenger each year and being able to waltz right into a BCS game, rather than really having to grind and earn it in your league. That's the only reason that the PAC was something OU was willing to move to but not the SEC.
If it were so easy howcome Missouri never did it? Heck it if were so easy howcome Missouri never made a BCS game in the Big 12?

50k? Holy hyperbole, Batman!
Mizzou football attendance averages
2011: 62,095 (4th in Big 12 and 25th in Nation)
2010: 61,540 (5th in Big 12 and 26th in Nation)
2009: 64,120 (5th in Big 12 and 28th in Nation)
2008: 64,520 (5th in Big 12 and 26th in Nation)
etc.
Looks to me like you are getting a solid, steady diet of 60-65k attendance per year that is always in the nation's top 30. That being before the coming influx of SEC roadtrippers plus heightened local interest over having teams like UGA and Bama coming to town.

Where would those attendance numbers rank in the SEC? Have to think fairly far below 5th ... top of my head schools who are likely to average higher attendance than Mizzou (in no particular order)
A&M
Bama
LSU
Florida
Arky
SC
Georgia
Auburn
Tennessee

Funny you point this out, this amongst many other reasons, is why we are all so excited to be in the SEC.

He means South Carolina and he's almost right though not quite. USC hovers near that but is below 80k sometimes. Clemson is same way.
Another way to look at it is that even with that increased crowd size, South Carolina gets a ranking right around 19th/20th nationally most years in attendance while Mizzou is right around 26th or so. Not exactly a wide gap in the national rankings there.

I thought he was talking about non-SEC schools, so Clemson + NC State or something...

BigAggie06 - you are right, but the majority of the SEC is in the nation's Top 25 in attendance annually. It's the most football crazed league in the nation and we all know that. But if the SEC as a league is already dominating the Top 25 in attendance then it was gonna have a hard time adding many schools that would be at that same level, since it's already above everyone else in the country in attendance. My point is, adding a team that is always ranked at least in the 25 to 30 range in attendance like Mizzou is not exactly shabby or a sign that its a school that doesn't care about football. On the contrary, a team can rank in the bottom half of SEC attendance and yet still be in the nation's top 25 in attendance (see Kentucky).

That's 11 of the 14 SEC schools - with the Mississippi schools and Vanderbilt not in the top 30

molsusports - what's telling there though is that schools like Florida State and Virginia Tech would also rank in the bottom half of SEC attendance, in Va Tech's case almost as far toward the bottom as Mizzou.
Attendance-wise other than A&M there just were not many realistic candidates out there that would have beefed up the SEC attendance numbers in any more meaningful way than Mizzou would. MU can reasonably set a goal of catching Florida State's 70,000 average mark within the next decade (as I mention above MU attendance in 2008 and 2009 was just under 65k so we've already gotten halfway there before). Between planned stadium expansion and influx of SEC visitors/more exciting SEC home games drawing more locals I think our upward attendance trend will be fine.
I'd be really interested too to see how the attendance numbers at South Carolina and Arkansas *prior* to them joining the SEC compare to what they are now. I'd bet that may be a good barometer of what to expect with Mizzou moving forward.
