The argument of "Muschamps defensive guys" is not a good one.

True. It's like people don't realize that UF has had a consistently good defense since Charlie Pell was roaming the sideline. It really doesn't matter who the coach is. UF almost always has a good D. Muschamp "guys" don't matter because we recruit Florida athletes.

I haven't been impressed with Kirby's so far but he also had a tough deal in his first year. I said before last year that UGA was gonna suck and was down voted like crazy but it was a really bad situation and the preseason hype was completely unfounded.

However, if he continues to recruit like he has been, its gonna be really hard for him to mess it up. If he improves his in-game coaching as well...watch out.

Lambert had shitty OL too, and lost Chubb halfway through season, yet still managed to set an ncaa single game completion record

Yet despite all those words, he still sucked.

go 7-5 with your first time head coach and finish with the #3 recruiting class in the country?

Sounds very familiar....

Hopefully he will be the next Mark Richt so the rest of the top programs in the SEC don't have to worry about UGA.

Except that is the opposite effect that Richt had when he first came to UGA. He won the SEC twice in his first 5 years.

I'll be pretty happy if that's what Kirby brings because I can't think of many coaches that had that kind of immediate success in this conference.

Not so long as Chaney is still there calling plays. Dude is terrible.

I tend to agree with this. I'm still a blind fan who believes our D can cover up his awful play-calling. Truth is, Chaney won't make it to the end of his contract. Kirby wants to open up the offense to more of a RPO/spread and Chaney has no clue how to facilitate that type of offense. Just a matter of time before we rid ourselves of that fat arse

I recently heard that the coaches told Eason last year not to adjust the play they had called under any condition. That seems weird .

His OC is Jim "kiss of death" Chaney. I believe it.

I know some folks think I am being too hard on Chaney or I'm upset he is at Georgia instead of Arkansas... but I believe he is the X factor that will keep Georgia from winning the East.

I would have Georgia as my favorite to win the East this year if he wasn't the OC.

It's been well documented from about 3 different fanbases that he's one of the worst OCs in the league.

That said, he's already experienced as many SEC wins at UGA as he had in his previous 4 years at Tennessee and Arkansas.

Only one but this seems like a strange path to head down considering UGA lost to Vandy too.

NOT A CHANCE - he is a good practice coach but a poor game coach - vandy, ut, fl, gt are evidence.

I like Smart and I hope he does well at UGA because a good UGA actually helps Alabama since we have common enemies at Auburn and Tennessee, and we're hardly even rivals. That said, I thought he made a horrible choice with Chaney. I wish they'd hired somebody else this off season.

I really don't think so. Last year showed much regression and limited progress as compared to the Richt era

Richt went 6-7 last time he started a freshman qb. How is 8-5 regression from that?
