OJ had a 1750 point margin over runner up Leroy Keyes in 1968

He also has the most first place votes with 855

I thought Troy Smith broke that?

E: guess Smith's record is % of the first place votes. Did they have more voters back then?

Smith has highest percentage.

There were a lot more Heisman voters at the time of OJ's selection. So, the gross number is tough to beat

Yes, so Joe has basically no chance of breaking OJ's record. Smith's record is the more important one.
