Why we should not have a CFB playoff

My opinion, written during SuperBore XLV.
First of all, all Super Bowls suck (except last year's).
Secondly, I'm still pissed that the Saints were knocked out of contention by the 6-7 Seahawks, who shouldn't have even been in the playoffs in the first place. Please allow me to harp on this for about,...oh, the next several years at least. This is why I don't want a college playoff, unless it's limited to 4 to 6 teams.
Scenario: Syracuse has an unusually good season in the worst Big East year in modern history. They finish with a 7-5 record, beating nobody of significance and losing every non-Big East FBS game. They make it to the 16-team playoff by virtue of winning the Big East and, as last seed, play top-seeded _______ (plug in your fav SEC team), who has fought a grueling schedule and beat 7 top-20 teams. Syracuse has an extremely abnormally good game in the playoff, and the SEC champ has a rare but horrible game and is beaten. The better team doesn't even get to sniff the trophy. By the time the championship game is being played, that previously undefeated SEC team is now a footnote on the season.
College football is a war made up of twelve important battles. The two best warriors should play in the NCG and the 3rd -10th best should play in the BCS bowls. The 4 or 5 loss champion of the Big East or WAC or whatever should not have a shot at the NCG unless they finish the season as #1 or #2.
I'm done (for now). Finito. Amen

The regular season is the playoff. Don't devalue it.

I wouldn't mind a small group playoff. Make it an 8 or 10 team playoff allowing the top 2 BCS teams to have a bye the first week. I also think they need to dump the automatic qualifier conferences. Let's be honest, is the Big East really any better than Conference USA, WAC or MWC? You could argue that they are now with TCU shifting over, but how about the past two or three years?
Seriously, an 8-5 team won the conference and got a BCS bid only to get beaten by 4 touchdowns by Oklahoma.

The biggest myth in CFB history

There is already a playoff and it includes 6 teams. They call it the SECW. Everyone else can go frick themselves.

From week 9 on not a single game outside of AU and Oregon's mattered one bit.

Agreed. Knowing that every game matters is what makes CFB so much more fun than all other sports. I would like to see a small 4 team "plus one" playoff or maybe a 6 team one with 1st round byes for the top 2 teams, but nothing more. Go back to an 11 game regular season.

After your loss to SC, not a single game of yours mattered. The Iron Bowl mattered as much to Bama as September games matter to the Royals.

if they DID go to a playoff, I hope they force every conference to have a CCG and frick Notre Dame if they don't want to join a conference.

You can only say that because your biggest rival is out of state. If you didn't think that Bama gave a shite or that the Iron Bowl didn't matter, you know nothing about rivalries. They would have made shirts if they fricked up our season at the end of it just like we would have done if we could have pulled the upset on them last year.

Yup, the only good rivalries are in state.

Alabama was still in a national title race into November. We were ranked #5 in the country at the time we played LSU. Had we won out, every game would have mattered.

No but you don't understand what it is to live in the rivalry 365 days a year. There is nothing that Bama would have loved more than to take a dump on our season last year and they would have given us shite for the next 364 days until we had a chance to repay it. In-state rivalries are the "best" or worst depending on how you look at it. It is just a matter of hate that you have to live inside to understand.

Yeah, our record was bad, so Vols fans didn't care at all when Dan Lincoln kicked the ball into Cody's armpit last year.
I don't really buy it the in state argument. It may help add fuel, but it doesn't just put it over the top. A lot of the best college football rivalries are out of state.
