Why We Lose
Their defense is better than Arky and their offense is too.
We didn't play a good game last week and Arky played lights out, but there were some worrisome play on both sides of the ball in relation to this weekend's matchup.
1) our offensive line has yet to gel. This is bad because State has a heckuva DT and a couple serviceable DEs. Dline pressure means the rest of your defense can be sub-par/average and still get the job done.
2) our defense still can't defend the run, or the pass. Brandon. fricking. Allen. had a field day on us and it was all be cause we couldn't stop a 3rd grade HB who skipped 1st grade and can't see over his own facemask from running the ball on us. Run. Run. Run. FIRST DOWN. Play Action goes for 35. FIRST DOWN. Run. Run. Run. Repeat.
Congrats State, you just beat A&M.
State - 24
Aggy - 17
Why We Win.
The Aggys are State's first real spread offense test that has the weapons and the QB (lol Barn) to test their secondary. LSU had success throwing the ball when they did, and that bodes well for A&M as they will be targeting Kirk and Reynolds early and often. If Kyle Allen continues to run the Read Option with relative success then I think our WRs eat all day long.
The defense gets Josh Walker back this week, and our safety play will benefit greatly from this. If our DTs can eat blocks then I like our chances of limiting State's run game (because stopping is a literal impossibility with this team). Keeping State behind schedule means our DEs can do what they are actually good at which is rushing the passer. De'Runnya Wilson will make his plays and I am sure Dak will do the same, but an INT or a sack-fumble could leave State one possession short of a win.
Aggy - 41
State - 34
Either way you slice it, I really think this will be a great game and I hope the State fans that make the trip enjoy the first SEC game in New Kyle Field. I'll be the drunk guy in maroon so feel free to introduce yourself.

We win because Mullen is 2-13 against ranked teams in his career away from home, and neither of the two wins finished ranked.

Y'all lose because you are Texas A&M and that is a tradition.

Well if we lose to state, we likely lose to Bama, Ole Miss, and LSU and would probably finished unranked.
Either way the stat holds true. This weekend will tell us a lot about our team.

No. One loss would not define the entire year.

Agreed, upsets happen all the time but we definitely wouldn't be favored in any of those games because they all have better teams than State.
Wouldn't you agree?

A&M has yet to beat a ranked team in KF since joining the SEC, I don't see any reason they will reverse that trend this week.

TAMU has yet to beat a top 25 team in the new Kyle Field. So ^^^ stat is a moot point.

Meh. I'd prefer reasoning that involved actual football to be played by two teams but stats are stats.
We are also unbeaten in New Kyle Field since joining the SEC.
Now we both have them.

I think Miss State wins this one in a close game.

This may very well be the most evenly matched game of the season in the SEC West. I don't see either team winning by more than a TD.
This could be a defensive slugfest and end 21-17 or it could be a 56-49 type game where the last team that has possession wins.
State's advantages are DL vs. A&M's OL, and Dak vs. linebackers and secondary. Wilson gets all the pub, but State's other receivers are very underrated and can hurt you.
State's weakness is the secondary, but Diaz has done a pretty good job with the "bend but don't break" scheme. MSU's defense has given up just five touchdowns - and three of them were to Leonard Fournette. Let's take a look.
USM scored their only touchdown on a 19-yard pass after a muffed punt.
Fournette had three TD runs of 1, 26 and 18 yards. Harris only threw for 71 yards on 9-14 passing, but three of those passes were for first downs.
Northwestern State had a 13-yard run in garbage time to get their only TD
And of course Auburn did not score a TD against State.
So the weak secondary has only given up one TD, and Leonard Fournette has more TDs against State than the other three opponents combined. This is a salty defense that you may get a bunch of yards on, and look up and you have three FGs to show for it.
