If it's true that the ACC withholds third tier money for football but not basketball, then I can understand why FSU is pissed. And if the ACC doesn't change it, I can understand why they'd leave, putting all bias aside.
The one part I don't get:
Sound familiar

Haven't you heard?! TCU will be Texas' marquee game on Thanksgiving!! The whole state will be divided. Millions will tune in to watch this historic matchup. TCU's 50,000 capacity stadium will have 15,000 strong horned frog fans. Oh wait, if this even happens Texas will of course do its usual and jew everybody. They will probably never play an away game during Thanksgiving.
I heard Texas wants to have a rotation between TCU and Texas Tech on Thanksgiving so that they have a home game every year. Was that just an idea tossed out or are they really going to go through with it?

That MrSEC read was pretty good, thanks.

This is exactly why no one takes the BE/ACC football programs seriously. You know you suck when academic smack is your go to argument.
quote:
So to be clear.....FSU and WVU fans care only about football? Nothing else about your college, e.g. academic standing and reputation, edowment, research, etc. means anything to you? Huh. So when you interview for a position with a Fortune 500 company the manager interviewing you asks - and let's assume for this example that person is a bookworm ivy type - and he/she asks, "where did you go to college Mr. Corncobb," you reply "WVU, and though we have the academic quality of a low-tier CC we have one heck of a football team, though I have to say in our history we've never won a national championship and don't have a Heisman Trophy winner." I guess that interview will end quite abruptly.
I feel true sadness if you only measure your college choice and success of it and pride in it by the football team's "conference payout." I'm a Pitt guy and sports success comes and goes. Pitt was a beast for 8 years straight from 1974-1982. Then 7 years of pretty good. Then went off a cliff we are still climbing up. FSU was incredible for a lot of years, especially the 90s. It's been pretty average since 2002. Keep telling yourselves your a power and should be treated as such by everyone else because of your history. Us Pitt faithful have been doing that for 20 years. You are what you are, and lately you haven't been much. And yes, your current football program is better than Pitt. I admit it.
As Pitt anticipates joining the ACC, I'm excited. There are a lot of great schools academically and in sports. If FSU and Clemson want to leave, I say good luck to you. I'm a Libertarian. To each their own. I'll stand next to UNC, GT, Wake, UVA, Duke, Cuse and the other remaining ACC schools with pride of affiliation all day long. Sports success is fleeting, a quality education from a great university lasts a lifetime.

I'm trying to remember the last time an application asked which conference one received their degree from.

I agree. The academics argument in regard to alignment is completely ridiculous. Unless you are trying to set up some shared research money deal like the B1G has, who gives a frick. I can see why the B1G might care because of that, but don't see why any other conference would or should.
The fact that Rice and Tulane are in a conference with UTEP and Marshall has never seemed to have an impact on their reputations as great schools

For whatever the reason B1G certainly cares, they were none to happy about NU losing AAU status. It's also the reason OU/OSU has zero chance of ever being invited to that conference.

I think the B1G has some research agreement where the schools share some of their research money and collaborate on research projects

Did you really just post the Aggie's just need to win something? Just in the last 9 years under Bill Byrne we have won 17 national championships and 45 Big 12 championships. I may be wrong but I think both lead the big 12-2+1-2+1. Also the Aggiea ranked #6 and #8 in the directors cup rankings of athletic departments the last two years. Texas was not in the top 10 either year.

aggiegreen,
no one gives a shite unless it's men's basketball, baseball, or football.

They do, it's called the CIC (Committee on Institutional Cooperation), and it's comprised of all the B1G members plus the University of Chicago (a founding B1G member which later de-emphasized athletics but remains a CIC member). It's a real big deal to them along with the AAU status.

LSU blew you guys out in the cotton bowl.
Yall were 7-6 last year. Mid tier team for life.

Wow that article was great from MRSEC. FSU sounds pissed about this new ACC deal.

lol, ctiger, please look up the record over the past 25 years instead of past 10. we can compete and that isn't why we left.

Question for you though:
When do you think the Texas legislature will force A&M to play Texas??? Kinda reminds me of when Auburn and Bama refused to play each other until the Alabama legislature forced them to.
