re: Why is Michael Oher's story getting more pub than Rolando McClain?

What would be the point in doing something like that now? If they were to make a movie of Rolando or any other player it would just be looked at as a rip off of The Blind Side

I would say it is because there was already a book written about Michal Oher, The Blind Side: Evolution of the Game. And the movie the Blind Side was based off the book

Adopted by a white family in the deep south probably had a lot to do with it too.
Because there is no such thing as racism north of the Mason Dixon right?

Many Ole Miss fans tell stories of the mom that are very different than the way the movie portrayed her.
Is she attracted to biker dudes? She cheats on her hubby only when dirty sanchez is involved?

They are very stuck up from what I've heard. They have the whole "we are better than you" attitude. That's just what I have heard though

That's insightful. There have been people with similar stories to Oher's "make it" to the NFL for years and years. I've always just wondered what made Oher's story catch?

This...and why is everyone so cynical of what the family did. Attention seekers or not it was an act of philanthropy. I'm sure a fan from every sec team can find a story worth telling regarding a player on that respected team. This effort in comparing and contrasting stories is absurd.

What about the Clemson player who adopted and raised his little brother on campus, because momma was a crackwhore?

Also, the kid from Georgia Tech who was just drafted by the Broncos. His mom and dad split up. Dad was in the Army and so the kid was forced to live with the mom. Mom and grandmother both went to federal prison. He lived with an aunt, but she told him that she wasn't his driver and so he had to ride the school bus home every day - which meant no football practice. He ended up choosing football over the aunt and was out on his own in high school.

What I'm saying is the book gave the story a national spotlight and that is why the movie was made. There could be millions of movies made about football players stories but until someone makes their story public knowledge, aka a book, no one will know their hardships.

A full year after being admitted to Briarcrest, Oher was still living with as many as five different families, including the Tuohys. It wasnt't until AFTER Oher was named 1st team All-Tennessee and called him the next great left tackle by Tom Lemmings that the Tuohys took Oher in permanently. The NCAA was still investigating the relationship between Oher, the Tuohys, and Ole Miss when Oher was admitted to Ole Miss.
Before writing "The Blind Side", Michael Lewis had authored other sports-related books, including the best-sellers "Liar's Poker" and "Moneyball". Lewis and Sean Tuohy were high school classmates in New Orleans, and before Oher even started at Ole Miss, Tuohy contacted Lewis to write a story.

Pretty much. Had 2 years of eligibility left and Bowden pulled his scholarship to make room for new players.

The book was about the left tackle and the story of Oher just happened to fit in with the rest of the story.
Michael Lewis is also a very good writer that has a pretty loyal following.
Also, never met the Tuohy's but their house is only about a half mile from my office.
