It was posted because people who know that football was played prior to the year 2000 are trying to impute hypocrisy on the situation, likely by invoking 1964 because they know Bama fans will lose their shite over it. Also, now that I have officially typed 1964 in this thread, Walmart nation will descend to rehash the argument. It is a pig call-to-arms.

I'm not gonna get into how NC's were won/claimed pre-BCS right now because it doesn't matter. The BCS system is what we currently have, and under that system, Bama won the championship last season. It really is that simple.

Yup. That's why USC's 2003 AP title is still considered valid.

LSU fans are just biding their time until that title, too, is vacated. Looking at the coaching staff of that team, a revelation of major violations in 03-04 eventually coming out seems more likely than not

Playing in the Texas League =/= "Full Conference Schedule". It equals playing Texas and Scrubs.

If you look at the stats of the years posted..

SWC teams in top 25 winning percentage during that time -3
SEC teams -3

SWC has two in the top 10( 3 in the top 11)
SEC had 1 in the top 10 (3 in the top 19)

He posted a link which claimed LSU shared the final #1 ranking in 2011. The AP and Coaches Poll clearly disagree.

Are we still discussing 1960-1979?

Who is the other SWC team?

OU was in the Big8. It was only in the SWC from 1915-1919. Texas Tech was teh 3rd highest at #46. By contrast, the SEC has 6 of the top 32.

ETA: Deleted Houston which did not join the SWC until 1971.

Check out LSU's 1968 schedule. They played 4 SWC teams...

...and 5 real teams.

Now check Arkansas' 1968 schedule, they played a bunch of Texas scrubs - and Tulsa.

Note in 1970 LSU started adding Big 10 and Big 8 teams and Notre Dame to the OOC sched, in addition to the regular Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee conference teams.

In the 20 years from 1950 to 1970, who would you guess had the best win% in college football?

It might surprise you.

Yeah I know. The final BCS rankings had Ohio State as #1, do you think that should count? We beat them in January when it matters.

They can count it if they want.

Personally, I really only count 1936, 1958, 2003 and 2007 as NCs for LSU.

...so?

Alabama doesn't claim titles for years where the AP, Coaches or sometimes even both don't agree?

It happens, get used to it - y'all are trying like hell to get the rest of US to.

Kentucky, Mississippi, Alabama, Mississippi St.
& Tulane?

ETA: Well, we did win the Sugar Bowl that year.

You've misinterpreted this completely. I posted the Houlgate poll with a sense of humor. But let's be clear...if bowl games should count, if major polls only should count...that 'Got 14?' gonna take a big hit. It's in fun man. Congrats on bowl game and Coach Saban getting Tide back up to snuff. Looking forward to 11/3/12.

My apologies, then. I didn't realize it was in jest.

Don't disagree with you here. I don't claim 14 NC's.

What part of "consistently good" lines up with Florida's 7-6 season last year? Or 8-5 the year prior?

The Gators were dominating under Spurrier and most of Meyer's tenure but "consistently good" doesn't sound right lately.

I get the argument that Florida has won more SEC titles since 1992 than any other school. But 7 of Florida's 10 division titles were Spurrier's teams. Since Spurrier's departure, Florida has won the East only 3 times in 10 years. Georgia has won the East 4 times in the last 10 years. Part of the reason LSU has never had to play Florida in Atlanta is because the Gators just haven't been to Atlanta very much since Spurrier left. That and Florida and Bama seem to always magically meet in Atlanta.
