Actually Houlgate takes into account bowl games here
Remember, despite the protestations of some, there was actually a whole season. LSU had wins over UA, Hogs, Oregon, UGA and WVU. Tide had wins over Hogs and LSU.

I think he is forgetting the purpose of the BCS is to get the best two teams as 1,2 in the final BCS so they can play for the title to see who wins the title.

It was posted because people who know that football was played prior to the year 2000 are trying to impute hypocrisy on the situation, likely by invoking 1964 because they know Bama fans will lose their shite over it. You almost have it right.
The BCS is only a SYSTEM designed to determine two teams to play in a championship game. Once those teams are determined, the BCS is done. The championship trophy is actually awarded to whomever the Coaches Poll says it is. It is, after all, still only a poll championship - just like the AP.

Check out LSU's 1968 schedule. They played 4 SWC teams.

Didn't the AP take their final poll for the 1965 season after the bowl games because of Bama losing the year before? If that's the case, they should be glad they lost their bowl after the 1964 season.

Yeah I know. The final BCS rankings had Ohio State as #1, do you think that should count? We beat them in January when it matters.
