I don’t think it’s about attention. I think it’s about doing it at the highest level and in a situation he thinks he could win.

Why would he sign it before the playoffs? If he makes it into the playoffs he could get even more

If you can't get a playoff spot in a 12+ team field in 4 years you aren't up to the job.
