I think they are putting a recruiter in to split Tampa/Miami to go after students from Belin (sic?) Jesuit and others like that.
Belen is a good school. They need to. When talking to my sister who is still in HS I know of 4 kids going to LSU from Archbishop McCarthy, a few from St Thomas Aquinas, 1 or 2 from American Heritage and Alabama always scoops a few up as well but they recruit a lot heavier down here. (if you follow football recruiting you would know 2 of these schools names)
I do know Alabama has a dedicated academic recruiter for this area as she sent a ton of shite to my house

Just for fun, my old HS made 1

quote:Not sure, but the downward trend in state funding was a major factor in the school's decision to go after more OOSS. At some point, though, the whole deal is like a dog chasing its tail.
What would that 12% convert to if enrollment was 22K? Would there have been the same increase in tuition for in-state students like we have seen over the last 4 years. Unless you are a private school, your enrollment should not exceed 40% OOSS or state funding should be pulled. Nobody liked Affirmative Action, but it did force the issue. This goes for both AU and UA.

I know. UF admissions can blow me.

Does anyone think the cost of an application fee has an influence on admission rate? I do.

I'm glad to hear the OOS folks on here had a great experience at LSU. Some of my good friends went there, and again, I've always had an amazing experience on campus and in BR as a whole. It was just my perception that LSU is predominantly, a much more locally saturated student population than other schools. Same with Mississippi State and Arkansas when I visited. Not saying it is a good or bad thing by any means.
I just know that when I decided I wanted to leave Atlanta and venture out-of-state for college, the amount of OOS kids who went, and spoke highly of their experience definitely played a factor. From my high school, we always had a lot of graduates from Alabama and Ole Miss go and speak exceptionally well of their experience. I trusted their opinion as friends, and am glad they recommended both--I really liked the schools when I got there.
It will be interesting to see if Ole Miss ever "grows" the way Alabama has. I'm not sure why it hasn't, to be honest. However, I will say as awesome as Oxford, Mississippi is, it's a humongous pain in the arse to get there.

Yes. UNC-CH, for example, had an $85 app fee back when I was applying. Knew I wouldn't get in, but had entertained the thought of applying just for the hell of it. $85 ended the entertainment.
UA's was $40 or $45. Not sure what it is now, but that seems about standard.
IIRC, UA's rejection rate is/was around 70%. Of course, with more recruiters, they're getting more apps, which allows them to reject more. So much of the rankings crap is a shell game that's manipulated by all the players.

Which is why I think ranking should use ACT/SAT Scores of denied students instead of acceptance rate. Those numbers are just as easy to obtain.

I only bode the question because a particular SEC school, with supposed tough admissions, has one of the cheapest app fees in the nation... Couple that with one of the most populated states and the rate of admission is obviously going to be lower.
I'm looking at you Florida.

So you're doubting that UF actually has tough admissions because their app fee isn't crazy?
I had a 4.2 GPA, 2250 SAT, and 33 ACT and didn't get in.

Should've transferred.

No ACT/SAT score (s) needed if you transfer in as a junior.

Same, that was my whole deal. I though about FSU but I applied late and they accepted me for the following Spring. I decided to go to LSU that summer and do a summer/fall as an experiment. Football and alcohol happened, now I'm stuck there with 1 year left. Not bad I'd say

The only thing that would keep you out of a School with those scores, are compromising photos with underage children.
