Jesus this thread.
I'm not going to even read through 12 pages of nonsense. For the record Alabama does not throw money to every out of state kid. I didn't get that much, and I know plenty of other out of state kids who didn't get that much either. Also maybe some kids from GA or TX didn't go to their in state schools because they wanted to get away from home. Go somewhere new. That's why I left South Carolina and came here.

So you use hearsay from DOD engineers and you aren't even a DOD engineer yourself? I don't work for an engineering firm; I work for a large chemical company. I've done preliminary design for an overseas distillation column (proved it would be an unprofitable multimillion investment), done around $200,000 of capital project management, done heat transfer analysis that has saved ~$50,000, and am currently working on trying to improve the way we produce one of our products across the company, and that's 9 months of work. Yeah, my education was bs.

Bama has been throwing money at anyone that will consider coming there.

So you are an entry level engineer. Those numbers you throw out wouldn't even impress any of the government engineers you complain about. Like I said, Not hearsay, I have worked closely with those DOD engineers, while I have spent most of my career in uniform. Continue to beat your chest with your vast experience, maybe some will listen.

I have literally had a red stone arsenal engineer tell me the biggest decision he has to make every day is what he wants to have for lunch. Just admit defeat. I thought this was a résumé challenge? Here you are piggybacking people you are acquaintances with? The whole point was that you use random hearsay to back your claims and to devalue Alabama's success in various rankings and articles. You cite the opinion of hs guidance counselors and government engineers. I try to explain to you how that's not a valid thing to do, since it is a few people's opinions. I also then explain that even if it were a valid thing, they are opinions from people that I don't value that highly, especially hs guidance counselors. You then attack me personally and say I design lawn mower parts, which is ridiculous. Then, you propose this résumé challenge. After I kick your arse in that, you just spew some more fricking nonsense.

Redstone is one word, like the rocket. I explained to you the reason there are times when they have zero work. The government realizes it takes at least 10 years for an engineer to be worth a damn, so when budgets start shrinking they do not purge the workforce. We would have to depend on snot nose entry level engineers in a crisis if that happened. Again, I have flown over 6 different Military Aircraft over a career that spans over 20 years compared to your entry level CE position. I guess you win.

So undergrad at AU, and then off to OCS?
What did ya fly, if you don't mind me asking.

Anti-submarine community and my last flying assignment with the Army was a CH-47F.

Well, again thanks for your service. I'm sure your time in undergrad at AU shaped your military experience.

It doesn't take ten years for engineers to be worth a damn. Call me snot nosed. I think you're bitter and old. Thanks for correcting me on Redstone and explaining a government department that you don't work for. They don't fire them because of all the bs with politicians promising defense contracts for campaign support.

I went to my little brothers graduation in May and two of the top 5 graduates are going to Bama. One valedictorian and one salutatorian. Bama gave them more money than Arkansas did, fact.

It always amazes me how some UGA people try to include themselves in the same group as the likes of Florida and Texas. You are not on their level.
While UGA (usnr #60) amy not be on UF (#49) or UT (#52) level.
Alabama( #86 ) is no where close to UGA level.

It does take time for an engineer to be worth the money they're paid. For civil engineers, it's about the time you get your PE.

As explained before, UGA benefits from the state scholarship program. They can turn down very good students to take only the best students. All the while, the masses of people that fund the whole program have to send their kids to OOS schools for a decent education.

that is very accurate.
that benefits UA, AU, Ole Miss and a lot of schools that now get very good students and oos tuition.
my comment was directed to the criticism that UGA is no where close to UF and UT. when in actuality it is. plus both of those schools are aau. if UGA ever gets into that group, they will likely move up higher in those rankings.
truth is any school ranked in the top 100 is pretty great, and only if you are in that top 25-30 are you next level, hence so many schools tied for rankings below that point.

Thanks for clarifying. End of the day, hope all the SEC schools push academics even harder.

So, did it? Did your time in undergrad at AU shape it?
