Now, I don’t think UAB would have won a national championship with Jimbo. But I do think they would have done a little better than 23-61.
Written by a college kid...admittedly one of our own...but who nonetheless is an utter moron if he thinks Fisher ever would have stuck around long enough to coach 84 games at UAB.

Why does Paul Bryant Jr. fear UAB so much?
frick no, I concealed carry & I still wont go to legion field. most people at the games were admin, faculty & their families. most of them wouldnt be there if not required. I dont know wtf people are talking about but it is not safe around graymont. there are a handful of the lgbt crowd from UAB that think its safe otherwise its universally regarded as the ghetto wild west as even the cops wont hardly show up. one of the worst hoods in the state.
Yeah...remember about all the rapin' and thievin' and killin' when 67,000 showed up for ASU-Alabama A&M?
Neither do I.

The unsafe neighborhood argument is fricking bullshite pushed by more Auburn fans than UAB fans. ASU and AAMU turns out in droves every year even though neither campus is in the area. Do yourself a favor...google Magic City Classic tailgate...check out all the images...and then try to come back with with this assertion with a straight face.

The area around Legion Field can get dicey, but when Bama still played games there, most of the residents around there LOVED it and there were rarely problems. I'm sure cars were broken into, but that can happen anywhere.
And if you think the area around Legion Field is one of the worst hoods in the state, you've been living in your sheltered white bread bubble for too long. There are much worse areas, even in Birmingham.

They recoup the money. The same argument was used in the proposal for the stadium. Not saying Greek housing would not make back the money, but the same logic can be applied to the stadium.
If a stadium was not in the most dangerous part of Birmingham, you would have greater attendance. Something near the baseball field would have been perfect.

Not "my" BOT. I'm just going with what's been presented in this thread. If UAB is so independently wealthy, why don't they have the money and clout to take care of it themselves?
Again, just like hiring Jimbo, the BoT has to approve it. That is the crux of the matter. UAB does not have a deciding say in its own interests.

Far from the most dangerous part of Birmingham. Certainly not the nicest part, but far from the most dangerous.
And I support them having an on-campus stadium.

Blame this on title 9.
The only way to cut money losing womens sports is to cut the football program that is losing or breaking even.
These are stark facts many more colleges will be facing shortly.

Yeah, I might have exaggerated on that part... it is probably not the most dangerous, but there is a perception that it is very dangerous.
And I would applaud UA BoT if it decided to let UAB remain in Conference USA. Losing football will also really hurt basketball a C-USA drops them. I hope all this argument will be moot because they really won't pull the trigger.
I hope most UA fans feel like the editorial writers at the UA school newspaper do.

And you're convinced that the BoT is...motivated by influences other than financial? Motivated by spite? Fear? I'm sorry, I'm just not understanding what y'all's argument is. You can attribute motivations all you want, but until someone gives a solid, verifiable, and reasonable motivation that fits into the claims of pettiness and/or corruption, the financial argument is the one that makes the most sense to me. If Bama is providing the cash outlay of $17.5 million a year, and has been for years, it really raises the question of why the BOT didn't put that expenditure squarely on UAB's shoulders in the past if UAB is so rich. There's got to be more to the story than this, because forcing UAB to cover its own expenses from the outset seems like the quickest way to drive home any point to UAB supporters about the prohibitive costs associated with running a losing program with little fan support. And, no, I don't buy the "well, they paid for their own money-losing projects like baseball!" It's their money. They're getting a direct cost/return system from it, unlike UAB's football program.

its an amazing study watching how far bammers can completely disconnect from reality. what they are doing to UAB isnt much different than what they did to UAH recently over the NASA grants.
Wow!!! The butt-hurt has continued for you into the UAB forray. Nice.

Again, this is larger than football. UAB has had tremendous growth over the past decade.
The numbers that were quoted on Jox yesterday said that enrollment was down 26 people from the year football started.

Sort of off topic, but how do Universities get away with housing discrimination since most greek organizations are certainly not integrated?
Just wondering? I never understood the need for fraternities or sororities as sanctioned University organizations. FTR, I graduated from AU. I was independent. Attended many frat parties with friends, but did not join a frat. To my eye, fraternities are basically a buyers club for beer and bands.
I certainly recognize the right to have clubs, freedom of assembly, etc, but I don't see the big deal about being in a fraternity. I had plenty of friends and some were in frats; some not.

Why are LSU fans so mad about the UAB program?
It is not every day that we see a program shut down (especially in such a shaddy manner). Don't give me that the president shut them down, most university prez are just talking pieces for their boards.

UA BoT should be ashamed. Done deal months ago. Leaked a little early and now they say the President (recently appointed by UA BoT) made the choice.
I hope the blowback is tremendous.
Real UA fans should be disgusted with how this happened.

I'm sure the 100s of true UAB supports are going to take down a multi-million dollar operation. Good luck with that.
