Tennessee was in the same position with Bruce stealing 5*s from Syracuse, Kansas, etc. and it bit them. These guys don’t like the apple cart being upset, especially by brash outsiders.
Barnes is the first coach Tennessee has had who has had some clout. He is best buddies with Roy, Cal, Izzo, Few, etc.
You can tell a lot about how a coach is viewed by who they can get games with in the non league.

People don’t like Pearl because he’s a snitch. He was blackballed for years as a result. This is different.

Because he didn’t play basketball, he looks goofy and he beat just about everyone in the conference and everyone jealous
