but a bad guess would've been to throw the best you got.. lose that game and then have nothing to throw today.
I’m working with this theory:
The Gators bats have been less than desirable this world series (except for HRs) ….in fact, the Gators didn’t score more than 20 runs in 9innings all season…much less 5 1/2 innings (I’m carving out the starters earned runs) ….i just don’t see how that bullpen is worse than Charleston Southern
I theorize…starting the best, most likely would have kept the swings late and them chasing high fast balls…
I guess we see tonight if taking the foot off the gas worked or not

I disagree saying it was a calculated guess wrong. Florida had tied it up in the 3rd? with one out and an EASY double play ball hit right to Thompson.
He doesn’t boot it, Ack gets out of the inning tied, facing the bottom 3 or 4 in your lineup. Ack would probably get through the 4th and then Guidry in the 5th or another pitcher like Hurd/Herring at that point.
I would imagine that it would be tight still, but due to the score being close LSU doesn’t use literally the worst options in our bullpen. That Granny after Thompson screwed the pooch changed the game completely. Who knows how many homers y’all still hit, but against our better pitchers I don’t think y’all get to 15 ha.

I think the point you're not acknowledging is LSU was down by 5 runs after 5 and didn't score a single run between the 3rd and 8th innings. Sure, they could have used better arms and kept the score more respectable, but that's not the goal of a baseball series, they still lose, and then are heading into today's game without any reliable bullpen arms left. Taking the foot off the has is what you have to do in that situation. No one is concerned with what the final score was. The only thing that matters is winning 2 of the 3 games and putting your team in the best position to do that. Starting Ack was the correct move given the days of rest the other potential starters had compared to him. Bringing in Guidry to stop the bleeding was also the correct move and how he's been used throughout this year. I really think you're overthinking this based on how many more more runs Florida piled on after the game was effectively over.

Once it was 8-3 LSU was playing for today.
Yup.
Jay emptied out the dregs of the bullpen. It was garbage time and he had already moved on to Game 3.

He pitched strong in a pressure cooking elimination game ….i don’t understand why he didn’t start yesterday
And Ackenhausen didn’t?? And Ackenhausen did it in a starting role as opposed to Herring. And BTW, Ack pitched pretty well. It was the ones who followed that didn’t. Really dumb question.
