The civil war was about slavery, because the plantation owners thought they couldn't survive economically without it. It's always about the $, people will rationalize anything and destroy everything for ??.

What book? You can find a book to justify any position. Hell people used the bible to justify slavery too...

The Confederate flag isnt cool. It means you are an ignorant redneck

there was some historical value to the flag at one point, at least to the avg white southerner. however, the avg black southerner viewed the flag as a strong symbol of hate, oppression and bondage. and now the white supremeist and KKK are ruining any historical value of the flag for any moderate, open minded white southerner. maybe that's a good thing given the view of the black population. fyi, blacks are americans too. they "love" the confederate flag like the Jews love the Nazi swastika. duh

Have you read the proclamation from the State of Mississippi. Similar to many other states.

It was to preserve slavery. Plain and simple.

My point wasn't what book. Before you spew your opinion, type in the truth about the civil war. Read twenty different historians thoughts. Then make your own decision. The slavery issue was important to Abe. But he didn't even enforce the emancipation proclamation in all the states. He was afraid of pushing it. His main goal was a centralized government. Read about the riots in New York that ran the black people from the north. That's the same time period. The civil war was about states governing themselves. Our families wouldn't of sacrificed a whole generation to keep the black man down. There is a lot more to it. A large portion of the confederacy were volunteer militias. They were fighting for independence, which they thought they had earned after the revolutionary war. Which the republican tea party is still vying for. Hence the name.

Well who was the money on the opposite side of the slave owners as they were the ones that were wanting to destroy the way of life of plantation owners. A way of life that had been in place longer than it hasn't.

Not justifying slavery, but if it weren't for it then blacks wouldn't be in this nation. The way euro-whites are naturally the Americas would still be in some format developed. Different..yes, but still developed in some form. And 98% of american blacks would still be in Africa. Mostly still in tribes. It's the reality that just can't be whipped away no matter how much the racist black leaders want it to.

There is sooooooo much more issues for blacks to focus all this on instead of some statues. Or will getting rid of them going to auto fix all the crap cities in this country that have heavy black leadership? Lower the out of wed lock b*stard kids that are a burden on our tax dollars?

Just pathetic where a bunch of white cucks like Lindsey Graham have our nation.

I agree with you that they should be focusing on something they can actually do something about. The continued focus on slavery, white privilege, cultural appropriation, etc... is an exercise in futility. The biggest problem by far in the black community is the destruction of the black family and incentives to keep having kids that can't be properly cared for..most of the other issues stem from that. But they are capable of caring about more than one thing at once. You don't hear people yelling at folks raising money for St Judes because they aren't raising money for childhood diabetes.

You kinda left out the part where Barnett 'incited' the riot with his "I Love Mississippi" speech at the Ole Miss football game in Jackson.

"I love Mississippi! I love her people, our customs," he said. "I love and I respect our heritage."

"A call to arms ... 'We're getting ready to be invaded, we really want you as a Mississippian, a white Mississippian, to respond,' " Ross says.

Well, no. Penicillin was the first antibiotic, discovered in 1928. It will/may cure your STD but won't help if you have polio.

Salk polio vaccine clinical trials were in 1954

Good lord at the ignorance in this thread. No wonder the South has a reputation of being dumb and ignorant. It's well earned.

Also the first to fire a black coach. Keep trying little brother. You can blame Ole Miss for that however.

Well I don't know that I personally ever thought the flag was cool but he's right about some stuff. You weren't automatically considered a racist back in those days if you flew the flag like you would be now. With the shite going on now I'm beginning to fear ordering vanilla ice cream and being branded a racist.
