I better start thinking up my debut post

I am rooting for Mizzou to have a good showing this year, haha and I am not sure that I know why.

No one is saying this, that I know of.

Yeah, UGA has most of their skill players hurt. SCar isn't quite as strong as last few years. UF's O still has to prove itself. If Mizzou somehow gets to ATL, consider that a tremendous accomplishment.

A fellow engineer? My commitment to getting you access is growing. FE is on homecoming this year for us - I feel so bad for those poor engineering students graduating this semester that have to take it.

Yep, I am civil. Thank the good lord ours is on our bye week. You are out already or havent taken it yet?

I started my masters (Industrial) this year and I didn't take the FE last year, but I am planning on taking it in January on the new computer format. The FE is much more important for a civil than an industrial though... I won't be signing off on buildings/bridges/roads..

Both at missouri I presume? Yes the fe is critical for us. My buddy and fellow missouri troll I ham that I ham is an IE at UA. I have always heard it doesnt hurt and may help open doors for ie as well. For cveg, we are stuck at the same base salary until licensure basically
So what do you want to do after you get out?

Yeah both at Mizzou. Not completely sure what I want to do yet, but I would like to work in manufacturing or operations research. We have a lot of courses dealing with OR and process improvement/optimization, so I'm pretty confident with that skill set. Would take a job just about anywhere in city => the size of columbia.. don't really want to get stuck in a crappy town working at a small company. In reality though I'll probably take whatever I can get (hoping the Masters will give me a few more options).
You have anything lined up?

Yeah I work for a firm in town right now, somewhere I would gladly continue at upon graduation
Im just a dumb pipe guy though, I dont hardly count as an engineer

Masters should get you what you want. Thats been my experience with friends/coworkers in the industry

pass the FE and eventually PE.. then it doesn't matter how good of an engineer you are, you get the title.

Yep and the pay increase. Being a project manager is what I really want. I think managing huge projects with lots of moving parts while having to know everything about all of it is an awesome challenge

As long as it doesn't all fall apart when you are done
One of my good friends (civil) is working for MODOT. Took the job over a few other offers for the benefits.. gov't pension and all. Hopefully it will be there when he is ready to retire.

We are only 1-0 in conference play. That win was a good one, no doubt, but we really haven't proven ourselves and we have a long way to go before we should be included in all this discussion about "who can upset Bama" or "how Mizzou will feel if we end the season with one loss".
Or is there something that I, an optimistically-pessimistic Mizzou fan, am missing?
Voters and the media look at records and previous expectations. It's same reason Coach James Franklin was all but given a statue by many in the media and Vandy given 'media darling' status last year. Piling up wins no matter who the opponent is or how down they might be makes under the radar and historically bad teams into instant darlings. Mizzou is an under the radar program (or at least it was until a few days ago) that had a rough go last year so piling up wins and being undefeated at this point looks great on paper and neither voters nor fans are paying attention to whether or not it might mean something given there are only so many games you can watch.
Outside fans don't see the play or progress of teams the way fans of a team who are watching every snap and analyzing overall play do (and probably the majority of any given team's fans only care about W's and L's). The voters are the same way as any other team (they see highlight reels -- it would be impossible to watch every single game from any given Saturday) as are the writers and many sportswriters write on teams and games. Most folks whether they're fans or outsiders are using nothing more than scores, summaries, and stat lines to make up their minds about any given team.
Personally, I saw a lot of potential in Mizzou's offense last year despite QB James Franklin's injury but I haven't gotten the opportunity to really watch and see where you're at this season.
However, it's hard not to be cautiously optimistic about any team that's undefeated this many weeks into the season.
