You have a lot more faith in testing services than I do. Minimum competency is overstating it IMO
We would do well to invest enough in our schools (read: future) that they didn't have to fight tooth and nail for every penny. Of course, we should also invest in our horrible infrastructure while I have the bong in my hand

Sorry, civil engineering tangent/pipe dream. Will never happen, too "boring". Best to spend the money on "fun" things like wars

I'm with you man. We are losing meaningful percentages of our most important resource as a nation because of an antiquated and administratively bogged down education system.

Holy shite, Porker turned his fricked up response against Missouri education into a real discussion about education?

I have seen glimpses of the "real" Porker. My impression in those small windows is that I would buy him a beer and invite him to my tailgate.

Well with infrastructure it is spending $1 now saves $10 later. That's why we need to change everything
I believe education needs major changes too, but apparently 808bass doesn't. I think we have sacrificed problem solving, critical thinking, and longer-term projects for quick tests that tell us "who's smart and who's dumb"

You guys want to know why schools are failing.
Because they were designed to fail. The creator of the National Education Association is a financial elitist who said "I want a nation of workers, not a nation of thinkers". It goes much further.. even as far as sending the people that designed our schooling system to Germany to learn from Nazi mind control scientists. But, of course this info will be ignored bc it isn't very pleasant to digest.

I loved the real Porker. This post alter bullshite is a pale comparison. I'm glad he's returning, though.
Still think he should sacrifice the Porker name, though.

We've sacrificed critical thinking and long term goals in pretty much every facet of our civilization, not just schooling. I'm with you though.

Only respected Missouri posters are able to engage "real Porker". And you better not write checks your arse can't cash; I plan to be there next year come thanksgiving

This is a mental hurdle for you, the rest of the board has moved on. My posting history and iconic brand is too great to move on, sorry.

I've never heard any of that before, where did you see this? I will admit I don't know a lot about our education system's history

I remember reading somewhere that Japanese students dont even take a test or exam until their American 4th grade equivalent. The focus is on comprehension and critical thinking.
Im not sure what the answer is for our country. We need to start thinking outside the box though because the decline comparatively with the rest of the world is real and tangible and should be taken seriously.

This is what does it for me. Companies do what's best for them so I generally trust how the business world behaves. They are taking overseas people before us in greater numbers. Hell companies are starting with these people overseas instead over here where they should be these days.
ETA: Pretty much everybody above us does it different than us. That tells me something

At the top of the article you'll see the quote. The article itself isn't about what I was saying though.. it's more about the last elections and how people don't think. But, that was said by John D. Rockefeller, the creator of the NEA.
Link to the amazon.com book listing for The Leipzig Connection. The book description is sorta interesting.

Interesting stuff. Our world had crazy, sketchy stuff happen almost daily it seems. That's what makes history so interesting. Especially the "what would today be like if..." question

I can promise only "authentic Porker" will visit the Missouri board. "Porker Face" will live on the rant
ETA: and if my Hogs play a lot up in Columbia I will be up there all the time. I have some "free lodging" you might say
