That's great TenTex, but you are missing my point. I want Florida to win and I think they will win. My point is that during bowl season the average crazed Georgia fan (for example) becomes an equally crazed SEC fan.

Who gives a s*%t about conference loyalty when Florida embarrassed your team earlier in the season and has done so in many of the preceding seasons.

Why the hell would we pull for Oklahoma?

+1

Florida fans have a bad reputation, but they are still part of the SEC. Their fans root for our teams, and our fans root for them.

Oklahoma fans are just arrogant asses for the most part. I strongly dislike their team and fanbase far more than any hate I have ever had for Florida.

Well, using your example...yes, Florida is the bane of my football existence most of the time, but the trend and the W/L against them doesnt change whether they win or not. If they win, at least we have something in common with the other pretenders from other parts of the country. You guys still cant beat our best year in and out.

And should we beat them next year, it makes it even sweeter to say you beat the defending champs.

The SEC lovefest is out of control during bowl season.

It was out of control when LSU fans were pulling with all their heart for Bama to win the other night. That's just dumb. I'll give you that.

But it's ok for LSU fans to pull for Florida b/c it gives the SEC teams the benefit of the doubt with voters when the conference does well.

pay attention, rookie. until they give us a playoff system, it is essential to portray your conference as the "best" in the nation year after year. so, we pull for our conference for two reasons:

That's just too cerebral for me. Screw all that, a team I hate will continue to be a team I hate regardless of whether they are part of my conference.

And I could give two s*%ts whether OU fans ever cheer for Texas. To me it sounds kind of homo to use that as justification for cheering on Florida if you're an Auburn or Georgia fan.

Little Timmy might be an arrogant, self-righteous, born-again POS........but he is OUR arrogant, self-righteous, born-again POS and I'll be Go@@amned if I'll pull for some Sooner Schooner to beat him.

LSU by choice,,,,,,,

Southern by the grace of GOD!

Dude, it would be weird if I ever cheered for Alabama in a bowl game. No, I cheer for every SEC team, sans Alabama. For them, its a win/win situation. If they lose, hey, the team I hate just lost. If they win, well, S-E-C.

I don't think Florida embarrassed LSU earlier this year. We had no QB this season and we deserved what we got. I grew up in Texas as an SWC fan most of my life. The SEC is totally different and you cannot understand it unless you attended an SEC school or live in an SEC city. There is no better conference top to bottom then the SEC for quality football and fan support year after year. In fact, the Big 12 is benefiting from superior SEC football programs. I expect UT to run all over OSU tonight. UT will not pull a Bama and be flat. Saban got totally out coached which was an embarrassment to the SEC.

There isn't some mystical force that overcomes you when you are in the South East. Ten Tex, I grew up in Tennessee and have degrees from both Texas and an SEC school (which shall remain nameless). I know what both confernces are about and it just reinforces my original question. Why root for UF when they whoop up on you most years?

When I say the words "pull" and "Florida" it means I hope they win, and will hope this while watching the game. I will never "gator chomp" or feel terrible if they lost (unless a wager is involved).

It is like wanting to beat the crap out of your brother in the backyard at some sport badly, but still hoping your brother wins against outside competition. The fact that your brother is an ugly, deformed, sumbitch is forgotten.

I got it. But I have to agree with the Texas man that it is odd since Michigan/OSU fans, TX/OK fans, etc never pull for each other. I myself can pull for any SEC team but Bama.

On the SEC
===========
I fricking hate florida. Especially that smug Urban Meyer - I think he's a total douche-o-matic.

For three years I have tried to hate Tebow. It worked for 1 1/2 seasons until I kept seeing him all over the place. He's just a good kid, and a helluva leader. Probably plays with more heart than anyone I have ever seen, even Ronnie Lott - if they told Tebow they had to amputate his left nut in order for him to play in the 2nd half he wouldn't even think twice about it. Come to think of it, he'd probably cut both off just for good measure.

Every fan wants a player like a Tebow. An NFL team would be retarded to not take him.

On Oklahoma
=================
I hate Bob Stoops more than I hate Urban Meyer. He's another smug prick. What the frick are Oklahoma's academic standards anyways? He is a whiney lil' bitch. Hey newsflash Bob, you should have blown that Oregon the frick up like it was Osama's cave, but you let them beat you refs or not. It's a shame that he's actually going to have an excuse to lose in a BCS bowl this year.

Therefore, I will root for Florida over Oklahoma. Lesser of two evils.

This lovefest is all relative and mostly self centered.

Conferences these days are little more than street gangs in a lot of ways. You never really clame "victory" in the macro sense, but you can win a lose a number of indivividual skirmishes.

Reputation and perception carry a lot of weight, and if your gang is seen as the tougher one, it generally boosts you.

Ah, you're from Tennessee. I can understand why you cannot pull for UF now. That is how I feel about Bama.

Well also keep in mind that Florida, Georgia, Carolina fans have bigger traditional rivalries. I really hate Florida, but when Georgia Tech rears its head (like this year), they resume their place at the head of the hatred table. Carolina hates Clemson more than any other SEC team, etc.

Makes it a little easier to stomach others when your main hatred is directed OOC.
