Read my edited post. I saw as many battle flags on trucks while living near College Station as I did just about anywhere else in the south.

Having lived there was one of the reasons I was not a huge fan of letting A&M into the conference. Everyone wanted TV exposure but living there I got more LSU games on TV than I did A&M games every year which was the reason I was against it.

I found a clip of a kid in Missouri. This gives a good visual representation of why we hate you.

ETA: Just by using the term "full member" in regards to the conference shows you don't belong. Full memeber...lulz

I was born in Oklahoma, and we don't really consider ourselves "southern" in the true since of the word. But we're further south than Missouri, so I know Missouri doesn't have a claim to this fight if Oklahoma doesn't. Also once you cross the Mississippi River you're kinda out of the southeast and in the southwest. The only exceptions are Arkansas (kinda) and Louisiana, since the Mississippi River more or less cuts the state in half (but of course no one is gonna question whether or not Louisiana is in the South, lol).

Before they joined how many people at Mizzou would have self identified as being part of the southeast?

You said you saw racist shite--I was responding to that.

Also, I've already acknowledged Texas has its fair shair of rebel flag wavers--my point is that Texas pride trumps Southern pride 9 times out of 10 in the state (and I've lived in 3 very different Texas communities, not just College Station).

Saw far more racist/rebel flag paraphernalia living in Mississippi than in Texas. Not trying to indict MS or the South, but having something other than just southern pride/heritage to hold on to in Texas tempers that a bit, from my experience.

And my point was that A&M is a closer fit for the SEC than UT after having attended games at both of those schools before the expansion.

How many black people have been dragged to death behind a truck with a logging chain in MS since the last ones were in TX?

Other than a few on an internet message board, you wouldn't find anyone in Missouri saying they are southern or more southern now that Mizzou is in the SEC. Missouri is too proud of its BBQ to associate itself with such crap.

I agree, you Texans sure do love your state, and will let EVERY. SINGLE. PERSON. you meet know all about the "great state of Texas".

A lot of truth to this. In Arkansas, I've noticed the farther you get from the Mississippi River, the less southern the culture gets. At least it seems that way to me. Most of western AR is still southern, but it's a little different.

Also if your on I-40 leaving Memphis it's amazing how flat the land gets once you cross the Mississippi and enter Arkansas. Once I enter Arkansas and see all that flat land I truly consider myself in the West.

You're GD right. It's annoying to non-Texans, but we just don't give a frick.

And, FWIW, I like Alabama, and Louisiana, and Mississippi. Never been to Georgia or SC but they see cool. It's the south, man. I love the south.

Don't confuse the purpose of collegiate conference with geography. Outside of ocean, desert and mountain areas, hard to distinguish most states from another (at least in summer season.) Anyone who has driven throughout USA knows this.

OP, don't concern yourself with "hate" for Mizzou. SECRant posters are just hazing the noobs. Rational thought has nothing to do with it,

Are there Confederate Battle Flags still flying in Texas? I'm sure there are but not many. You will see Texas flags almost as often as US Flags though. Texans are proud of being Texans, we never let folks forget we fought and won our own independence and we are still a lot like our own country.

That said, outside of a few pockets (mainly in rural East Texas, you know the part that most resembles the Deep South) racism isn't very prevalent here. A&M probably adjusted to the Post Civil Rights era better than most. We elected our First Black Student Body President back in the Mid '70s. Our military and Corps of Cadets culture actually helped a lot here because the culture at A&M has always been it doesn't matter who your Daddy is or what you did in HS or if you were rich or poor or whatever. Everyone starts out as a Freshman and you are what you make of yourself. Doesn't mean there aren't Aggie racists, there are without question, but A&M adjusted to the idea of being color blind better than most. It also helps that Texas has a much smaller AA population percentage wise than a lot of Southern States, we have a significantly higher Hispanic population, and the only other Southern State as heavily influenced by growth from other States is Florida. That's very different than where my Mom is from in South Carolina where my family and most in the area have lived for well over a hundred years.

As to the OP, Mizzou just has to get over it. Earn your keep and you will get respected. If you ever expect everyone to accept you though you it isn't happening. Arkie and USC are still outsiders to many SEC folks. A&M is slowly earning respect and acceptance from some due to our solid first year but even if we win a Natty we will never be thought of as a "real" SEC school to some. That's fine. We are who we are and we pull our weight and then some.

Mizzou will be fine but if you expect to get your arse kissed it won't happen. The SEC is hyper competitive and plays rough. You have to step up in every aspect if you want to be more than an also ran. Personally I think the "Yankee" thing is just funny and a great nickname because it gets under your skin but it has an element of truth while not being really accurate.

Yep, I wouldn't even really classify Texas as part of the South since I see it as really its own entity.
