Would it be a rivalry if:
a) One team was 11-8 in the last 19 meetings
b) the two schools are in border states
c) the two schools finish each regular season by playing each other
d) the game produced six division champions in seven years (something that no other matchup in the division has done)
e) the last five games in the matchup have been decided by a total of 13 points in four overtimes
?
not if the feeling isn't reciprocated...fans feel they already have a rival, maybe 2...
The LSU/Arky matchup has produced some killer games of late that were better games than their counterparts in the Iron, Magolia, Egg, Coctail, blah..blah..blah
The game this year in Little Rock should be no different with a fricking raunchy crowd...I can't wait!

If Arkansas can continue an upper-swing in the West where we are a ranked team at the end of the season, it would probably make it a bigger game to LSU fans.
I think this year will be one of those years, which I'm thankful we are playing in Little Rock...BTW I hope this game is always played here, though most would disagree!

The Arkansas/LSU rivalry just needs some more time to incubate in order to become a big rivalry. It has been one of the better games in the SEC over the past decade or so, but Arkansas is going to have to become more of a national player in order to really escalate this game to the next level.

Not really. Even when we were in the SWC, we didn't have "rivals" outside of Texas. The reason being was we dominated the Texas teams besides Texas. Texas was a "one way rival" according to them, but you have to consider their arrogance in that Texas is everyone's "big game" and they do not have a rival as no one is good enough for them to consider them as such.
Back in the SWC hey days, Ole Miss would have been the second biggest rival outside of Texas. LSU would have been third.
Now anytime Arkansas is matched up with a former SWC opponent it is talked up as being a rivalry game more then it ever was in reality.
Today, Ole Miss is quickly fading out. The only attraction to the game is/was the coach. Auburn is more of a annoyance then a rival. LSU is gaining steam. Tennessee had its moments, but we do not meet often enough to develop anything of substance.

If Arky won a NC or at least SEC title then LSU would feel it a lot more IMO... to have a real rivalry there has to be a little fear on both sides (fear of losing because the other team is just better)

And i guess it's not okay for me to look at a team with the glass half empty.

I'd assume LSU is their biggest rival since they play for that golden boot trophy every year in football. Dont think there is much rivalry between LSU and Arky in basketball or baseball though.

Yeaa, they've had some hard fought battles for the past couple years.

What SHOULD happen with the boot is that the loser should have to take it. With that, and the intense games LSU and Arkansas have played the past few seasons, the game might actually become the rivalry everyone wants. The loser should have to take the freaking boot....It would be different...
As far as the magnolia twat, Ole Miss can just keep that thing....it's stupid. LSU nor Ole Miss needs that dumb arse trophy to prove to anyone that it's a rivalry game.

There is a trophy.

Kentucky was "the rival" in basketball, but lately its been one of Kentucky's native sons and he's been kicking our arse bad.

Houston Nutt. And it's not even close.

quote:LSU and Auburn fans made so much of the fact that the LSU/Auburn game produced the SECW champ five out of seven years while the LSU/Arkansas game did the same thing six out of seven years. I don't understand why--Arkansas' coaches have been jackasses just as much as Auburn's (from an LSU perspective). Also, with the Auburn game, you had a good idea what was on the line, while with the Arkansas game, you always know exactly what's on the line. There's simply nothing about this matchup that isn't indicative of a major rivalry. If LSU fans would stop thinking about Saban for five minutes....
If Arkansas can continue an upper-swing in the West where we are a ranked team at the end of the season, it would probably make it a bigger game to LSU fans.
quote:I'm with you on that. Being from West Monroe, Little Rock is about a 3-hour trip for me when I go. No knock on Fayetteville, but I don't want to make a trip that far for Thanksgiving weekend. I'm sure Razorback Stadium is way better than WMS, but the fields are the same size. I'm there to see a game, not to have a state-of-the-art cushion under my arse and a drink holder in my seat.
I think this year will be one of those years, which I'm thankful we are playing in Little Rock...BTW I hope this game is always played here, though most would disagree!
Regarding Arkansas for the next decade--and believe me, you will HATE me if you pay attention to my "work" on this site considering how much I bash Arkansas, whom I believe to be perhaps the most overrated football program of all time (yeah, I said it--I'll provide numbers sometime)--they will be to the 2010's what Auburn was to the 2000's. That is, Auburn and Arkansas have pretty much switched places. Auburn was up there with LSU and Bama in the 2000's, and Arkansas was more down there with OM/MSU; it will be the opposite in the next decade.

quote:...or the fact that Texas is 56-21 vs. Arkansas. Hard to argue with them on that, honestly. Even since my birth, it's 10-6 Texas, which isn't particularly even.
Texas was a "one way rival" according to them, but you have to consider their arrogance
quote:That couldn't be more ironic considering historic conference affiliations.
Today, Ole Miss is quickly fading out.
