wouldn't you have sections shifting if it was a root problem? One play, Cam took a step back on the mid-field logo and almost fell on his arse b/c of the traction.

This is a hybrid. This is a cross, ah, of Bluegrass, Kentucky Bluegrass, Featherbed Bent, and Northern California Sensemilia. The amazing stuff about this is, that you can play 4 quarters on it, take it home and just get stoned to the bejeezus-belt on this stuff. Cinderella story.

It was pretty bad, which is inexcusable IMO.

Why do you think everyone was slipping everywhere? That wasn't moisture. It was the ground beneath then tearing.

I would expect it to bunch up like a rug on a hard floor if that was the case.

It was apparently re-sod prior to the game (not sure of the timeline). It also looked similar to the Cap1 last year. When players where slipping I usually saw chunks of grass flying and little gashes in the turf. It seems like it was there long enough for the mats to have grown together, but not long enough to make it a solid playing field.

I didn't say it was installed that day. It had sometime to attach itself somewhat, but No where near the time it needed for a game to be played.

It was done about a week ago. They tore the turf up from the Fiesta Bowl and a day or so later, replaced it.
I don't care what kind of hortifrickingculturalist you are, you can't lay a new field of sod and have it rooted and ready to play on in one week. It was definitely not acceptable for a national championship game. It was fair in the sense that both teams had to play on it, but still, guys were sliding all over the place. I knew it was gonna be an issue, when Chris Davis hurt his ankle on the opening kickoff by slipping on it.

Kage: I agree with this.
When I saw them laying the sod last week on ESPN, I knew this was going to be an issue. I have a degree in Golf and Sports Turf Management and have been working in the golf course industry for the last 12 years. The only way this could've been done and to have had a solid field wouldve been to lay sod with at least 4-5" of soil underneath. Even sod cut with 2" of soil underneath it wouldnt have had time to get any root growth and been stable enough to make a solid field. They had to water to keep it alive since there was very little in the way of root structure there to provide for uptake of water. And you're right, one week was not enough. Three to four weeks minimum to provide the kind of rooting needed for stability. Dont know why they insist on sodding fields like that. They couldve just overseeded the heck out of it with some annual rye/perennial rye/bluegrass mixture and it wouldve given the "green" field that they were looking for. I dunno....just dont see the need for resodding before every big game.
