It’s applicable in this thread. Please feel free to go for it. I’m certainly interested.

It was all about entertainin’ the ladies.

The tradition got its start in 1907, when the university was AMC of Texas. The cadets’ dates were threatening to leave the games, because they were bored; so the upperclassmen ordered a group of freshmen to provide some entertainment.

Football was still growing in popularity; it had only been played at A&M since 1894. The group of freshmen raided a janitor's closet, donned white coveralls and began coordinating when fans would do certain yells. The first yell was used in 1896.

Because the Yell leaders were so popular among the ladies, the upperclassmen were jealous of the attention the freshmen received, so it was determined "fish" would no longer get the spotlight status.

The mugdown after a score obviously originated when the cadets had few opportunities to interact with females; so they devised a tradition that would make the most of their time together at games. It’s said that during some of the team’s worst years, folks had to resort to kissing after a first down, or else go home unsatisfied .

Just kinda odd that making a celebration/parade all that a thing never happened.

We have a parade prior to every home game, so that’s likely another issue.

When did A&M first admit women?

Action by the Texas A&M Board of Directors (now Board of Regents) on April 27, 1963, opened the doors for women to enroll at the formerly all-male, predominately military institution on a “limited basis.” The intent was for women to be allowed to enroll at Texas A&M if their desired fields of study were not available anywhere else in the state. However, women soon started enrolling in ever-increasing numbers, and no institutional attempt was made to limit the areas in which they could study.

You could also attend as a woman if you were related to a faculty member.
My mother’s brother-in-law, for example, was a visiting professor.
So she was able to take some classes.

Really, the early 70s is the recognized date of admission for females.

I didnt know that..but I'm also gonna assume your parade is closer to a "parade" in North Korea, than a homecoming parade anywhere else.

Exactly.
Here’s a shot taken before the Kentucky game a few weeks back.
Great times were had by all!

37-7 is rekt. 19-3, when you only scored one TD, set up by a turnover deep in our territory, and held to fg’s the rest of the game? Kinda meh...

if 19-3 is meh, then what do you call going 8-24, for 59 yds and 4 picks?? I'd say that sounds like a QB who was rekt

In 1963, three black students enrolled in a summer session, becoming the first to attend Texas A&M.
Soon after, with the passage of the Civil Rights Act (1964), five freshmen men became the first black students in the Corps of Cadets.
