And Matt Mauck had over 100 degrees in a fever the night before the game (several players were sick) and he wasn't 100 percent, which is probably why he looked sluggish during the game, including the interception play that gave Ole Miss its first 7 points.

Eli tripped because LSU's defense got a good push. If he didn't trip, he probably gets sacked anyway. The LSU defense was going to be all over him.

Woulda, coulda, shoulda.... There are moments in games that we all would want to change.

How different would Matt Mauck's legacy be if he came for his senior year and won a third SEC championship? I've always wondered about that.

I think the answer to this is Ole Miss. When Ole Miss has one of those good years they have proven they can hit the top of their division. The best I've seen Kentucky recently is their team in 2007, which was a pretty good team, but outmatched in its division by a good margin.

Have wondered the same thing. I think the 2004 season would have been dramatically different. But it was not to be....

not sensitive, i just find it funny that ole miss fans tend to selectively remember history to make up for their inadequacies. but i have yet to receive an answer for the "other" time ole miss has been close to winning the west as two posters have alluded to itt

If they lost it, we have one they could look at.

I was saying close when compared to Kentucky, who have only finished as high as 4th in the east. Ole Miss finished 2nd in 08 and that was what I was referring to, even though it really wasn't close to Bama.

LSU won the MNC that year, they were clearly the better team. We just had ourselves in a position to something meaningful for the first time in forever and needed a few more breaks.

That's football.

Not sensitive a bit, but find it amusing when Ole Miss fans play the "what if" game. Funny how the "what if" game only changes things in favor of the losing team, but never accounts for the mistakes, flukes, etc. that might have cost the winning team more points. It is just human nature to think this way. I have played it plenty of times, too. (As in what if the refs actually made the right call on Peterson's interception against Bama in 2009. Or what if J. Russell and the center don't fumble on Florida's 1 yd line in 2006, etc.)

Kentucky is a basketball school. They don't care about football. They suck at football but they don't really care.

You're a damned idiot. Kentucky does care about football. Everyone knows we're a basketball school, but most Kentucky fans care about the football team just as much. It would be a lot more visible if we could ever have some level of success in the SEC, but people do care.

I truly wish they would take that thing down. It's a perverse reminder of a sad, sad day in Ole Miss history.

I don't disagree, but UF was ridiculous that year and UGA was pretty damn good as well. We did beat #1 LSU and were ranked as high as #8. We beat a pretty decent FSU team that year in the bowl game, too.

What a shocker that one of my fellow Hog fans who is butt hurt over Nutt would start such a stupid thread.

Kentucky wins 31.4% of their SEC games all time. Think about that, they win 1 out of 3 conference games a year. That's pathetic. Now true, Miss isn't stellar at 46.4% , but that is 15% better.

It isn't even close.

Also, Kentucky hasn't beaten Florida since 1986. Mississippi has beaten every SECW team at least once since 2000.

The two programs aren't even close to each other. In fact what is absolutely hilarious is that Sao started this thread to try to burn OM but the truth is OM is historically on the same level as Arkansas, although we are ahead in SECCG appearances, we haven't actually won anything so is that anything to brag about?

Now watch, Sao - or others - will come and trash me for pointing that out and start calling me a Nutt Hugger even though my response has nothing to do with who the coaches are.

Yeah and a 6-6 SC team whipped the 'Cats too. Like someone was saying earlier, you can tell the legit level of care amongst the UK fan base by how many they bring to basketball games, always very audible, compared to football where even in that '07 game when UK was #8 and SC was #12.. UK only filled out parts of their lower deck section and didn't touch the upper deck sections like the larger traveling fan bases do.

Auburn and Alabama both get on probation. We come in third and go to Atlanta.

I think they probably were too. LSU may well have been as good as Florida that year, but for the fact they fumbled that game away. But that is part of the game. We fumbled too much, Florida won. Otherwise LSU actually outplayed Florida in that game. Win that game, its a rematch for SEC and the winner goes to the NC game.
