I'm making an executive decision on SEC Freshman of the Year:

Heston Kjerstad, Arkansas

Batting .351 with a .576 slugging percentage. Has launched 10 HR in 191 AB.

He is ahead of Cabrera for LSU, Williams for Auburn, and Keenan for Ole Miss in Runs, Hits, HRs and RBIs. Only Williams for Auburn can come close in HR and RBI but nobody comes close in BA or SLG.

Keenan is fielding .978 at the hot corner. Only two errors all year, one in SEC play. He’s going to win it. I would have said Kjerstad up until the last few weeks. I think Keenan leads all SEC 3B in fielding percentage. Kjerstad has better hitting stats but not by enough to ignore the defense of Keenan.

a .351 BA in 191 ABs can go up or down 15 points in one weekend.

He is not ahead of Cabrera in RBIs. Kjerstad has 42 to Cabrera's 44. He is not ahead of Cabrera in slugging %. Cabrera is at .580 to Kjerstad's .572.

Cabrera has a 1.014 OPS to Kjerstad's 1.000.

Kjerstad has a marginally better batting average and 3 more home runs.

He also has almost 40 more ABs than Cabrera, which is more a reflection of the offense around him. Arkansas has the best in the conference while LSU is in the lower half.

I'm not sure where you're getting your stats but they're clearly not up to date

I mean defensive stats are certainly a plus and Keenan is a helluva player all around but Kjerstad is firmly in the top 10 in damn near every meaningful batting stat as a freshman with noticeably more ABs. Maybe I’m wrong but im taking the guy that can consistently drive in runs and get on base at an extremely high level with the best of the conference

I went off D1Baseballs stats given that the SEC site is garbage. If the stats are wrong, they’re wrong and I’ll change it. If anyone knows a college baseball stat site up to date and worth a shite I’m all ears

Kjerstad hitting stats are loud. Most of it due to non conference. Keenan is third in the SEC in slugging in SEC games only. I just think Keenan is the better all around player due to playing better defense at a much tougher position. If it were any other defensive position other than ss I’d be all in on Kjerstad.

These are current (and from the SEC site).
LINK

Cabrera has a higher SLG%, OBP%, OPS, more RBIs, and more 2Bs. Kjerstad has a .351 BA to Cabrera's .333. He has 10 HRs to Cabrera's 7. And those volume stats are with Kjerstad having 194 ABs to Cabrera's 162.

And VivaZapata27 is right, Kjerstad's SEC numbers aren't nearly as good. Cabrera has actually done much better in SEC play than he did in OOC play.

Oh so this list does still exist. I haven’t been able to get this damn thing all season and figured maybe they just stopped making it available online for some reason or it was housed through some other website I wasn’t privy to. Or maybe my pop up blocker on the computer has just been preventing it from opening given that this opens fine on my phone.

Thanks for providing!

you have to go to the SEC Baseball section, then to media. Then it has links to all the different stats. Whoever designed the SEC site is a moron. You're not alone in thinking it isn't there anymore.

What are Keenan’s stats at third? I’d like to see him vs Casey Martin’s.

I meant offensive stats as third baseman.

Sorry, I see how you would assume defensive by that response but Martin isn’t a third baseman he’s only playing it this year because Shaddy is at his typical position.

Some very good freshmen seasons all around.

Martin hitting about 15 points higher with three more homers. Keenan better vs SEC competition.

Seems from the other thread that there is some unanimity for Stricklin as COTY so I've gone ahead an penciled him in there

Both in the top ten in batting in the SEC right now. That's unreal.

Will be nice to have them in the heart of our lineup for 2 more years.

Murphy has had a great year but Blaine Knight has a bigger name so I wouldn’t be surprised if Knight makes it over him. They’ve both been solid though.
