Everything I read says that MSU was placed on some pretty harsh probation. They weren't banned from bowl contention, but they still lost quite a few scholarships.

They self punished and took away a few of their own scholarships, but not a ton.
This was RE: a steroid scandal. Not paying players or anything else. It may have been classified as "major" but it wasn't nearly as crippling as some others.
Had it been that bad then he would have stayed at Michigan State. He obviously thought he had done as much as he could do there and if the sanctions had been so bad he would have wanted to stick around for a few years, but he didn't because they didn't make that big of a difference.

The NCAA also took away scholarships.

Ole Miss simply doesn't have the resources to consistently pull in top 5 classes on a consistent basis.
Resources don't recruit, coaches do.
And every other coach LSU hired between Charlie McLendon and him failed to take LSU anywhere close to being a national power.....and now Miles has taken you back to mediocrity, too.
Stop acting like LSU has some kind of magic associated with it--it doesn't and you are kidding yourself if you think it does......

Jerry Stovall- Took LSU to 2 BCS level Bowl games
Bill Arnsparger- SEC Championhip and 2 BCS bowl games
Mike Archer- SEC Championship and BCS Bowl game

Didn't say there was any "magic", just that LSU is a major college football program and Ole Miss isn't.

And you are full of crap for saying it.
Bottom line is LSU was one game over .500 in SEC play in the 25 years before Saban arrived--as mediocre as could be and not acknowledged by ANYBODY to be a national power during that time--and a special coach changed that for a short period of time....just as Alabama had been mediocre for most of the last 30 years until they hired the same coach......
One special coach does not elevate you to "great program" status after decades of mediocrity, particularly since you have been nothing but mediocre since his players graduate......
Sorry, but that is the honest-to-God reality, whether you like it or not.....and the fact that you have only been able to break even against Ole Miss for the last two decades just underscores that reality.....

btw, Ole Miss has been to exactly 1 BCS level bowl game since integration.

No, I'm not.

The 90's were the worst decade in the history of the program, by far, which skews these numbers significantly. Not saying that they don't count, they certainly do. But the 1990's are clearly the exception, not the rule.

One decade of mediocrity, which has been conceded. Which is also the exception not the rule. And yes one great coach does do that.

So what? We don't measure our program by how we do against Ole Miss.

Good, maybe you drew more attention than the KKK did at our game this year

I thought that would be the most offensive thing I saw in Oxford this year, then the last 90 seconds of the game happened

On the bright side, it shortened Les' leash significantly.

Alabama has 11 ten win seasons since Bear died. Nebraska, Florida State, Miami, Texas, Ohio State, Florida and Virginia Tech are the only programs with more ten win seasons in that time period.
