How is Ole Miss an entire tier above Arkansas? I think they're on the same tier. Arkansas actually might even be a little bit better.

Texas does not claim this. If memory serves me right, they only claim national championships in 1963, 1969, 1970, and 2005.

Cal - 1920

You got me with Cal, but they haven't done much lately have they?

LSU - 1908

College Football Data Warehouse claims this one so why doesn't your university?

Auburn - 1913

They only claim 1957 as a national championship year. You know this.

And this all is a moot point. I have no doubt as to the legitimacy of the national titles that were awarded to these teams, whether they be retro or not. But you missed the key words in my post. Brand name. You can't honestly look me in the eye and say that the national titles awarded to LSU in 1908 and Auburn in 1913 made them brand name programs throughout the world of college football. Alabama was the face of the south throughout the 20s and shared the spotlight with Tennessee in the 30s and 40s. Until the 1950s, those were the only two teams in the south that most in the media seemed to care about.

Please quit saying "WE" when referring to OM. You have posted numerous times on how you can't stand our fans or our administration. Pull an RCG(danmullensisourman) and get a new team

If we wanted to, we could claim 1913 and nobody would have a problem.

We would be on the same tier if you just considered recent history.

But all-time, we are a tier above them. They never had anything to quite compare to our run under Vaught in the 50's and 60's.....and were always over-shadowed by Texas when they played in the SWC.......

bluster equals being the better program? guess so then

i'll put it to you this way... you can tell how good a program really is by what makes their fans insecure... lsu fans are insecure because there is a program in the sec (bama) with clearly more historical success... ole miss fans are insecure because miss state might be their equal

That's my bias as well... arky has a nice sprinking of ten wins season scattered through the decades

not elite but certainly not bad

I don't really put a lot of stock in team records before the AP poll era. The game was so different before then and dominated by the Ivy League schools. From 1936-present, Mississippi State has been a much better program than Vandy.

By winning percentage

85 Mississippi State 0.46070
86 Ohio University 0.45828
87 Colorado State 0.45537
88 Illinois 0.44792
89 Kansas 0.44767
90 Marshall 0.44755
91 Southern Methodist 0.44723
92 Washington State 0.44603
93 Oregon State 0.44437
94 Nevada-Las Vegas 0.44186
95 New Mexico 0.43945
96 Wake Forest 0.41741
97 Iowa State 0.41214
98 Louisiana-Monroe 0.41156
99 Rice 0.40864
100 Eastern Michigan 0.40398
101 Kent 0.39917
102 Tulane 0.39796
103 Indiana 0.39253
104 Texas-El Paso 0.39113
105 Temple 0.39113
106 Kansas State 0.38068
107 Northwestern 0.37976
108 Vanderbilt 0.37758
109 Idaho 0.36330
110 New Mexico State 0.36207

I think the sharp contrast between these two statistics tells the story.

Arkansas played in a relatively weak conference for most of its history, with only one real top-tier program to contend with--Ole Miss, by contrast, played in a severely competitive conference with at least a half-dozen top-tier programs to compete with.....

.....which explains why, even though Ole Miss has fewer conference championships, its bowl record is decidedly more impressive....which is what you would expect given the gap between the SEC and the old SWC--when Arkansas went outside their conference, they usually lost; when Ole Miss went outside the SEC, they usually won.....and also explains why Arkansas has not won a single championship since changing conferences.....

Also, we dominated the series with Arkansas when we played them back in the 50's and 60's--Frank Broyles dropped us from the schedule because they simply could not beat us to save their lives......
