Now tell me why MSU had an all-white team, again?
The same reason EVERY team in the SEC did in 1963, the political leaders of the south were segregationists who used this stance to get elected and stood on this ground.
Babe McCarthy said that he would have loved to have been able to recruit black athletes just like Bear Bryant.
The politics of the time period just didn't allow for it to happen in the 60's

So you're saying MSU was still segregated then.....

i was on an all white basketbal team in high school and we basically begged african americans to come to our school.

and this has absolutely nothing to do with a University refusing to let blacks in.....

No it wasn't, there just werent any AA students who applied after what Merideth had to go through.
In 1965 there was a state law that was passed to begin to start the transition of integration of public schools and universities.

Please you'll have to link a verifiable source on this one Al. Not all of MSU problem's stem solely from OM like some in your fanbase believe.

They why didn't MSU integrate before Merideth enrolled at Ole Miss?

In 1963, the ALL WHITE Mississippi State basketball team which represented a SEGREGATED UNIVERSITY went against the orders or Racist Governor Ross Barnett who forbade them from playing against teams with black players. Coach Babe McCarthy snuck his team out of the state of Mississippi in order to play in the NCAA tournament.
FTFY
Just because your all white team representing an all white school decided that they should play in the NCAA tournament (a no brainer decision) doesn't mean that State is some sort of bastion of liberal, progressive thought.

Actually Southern Miss tried first but had a student denied and arrested on a false charge.
Ole Miss was the first to integrate because it was the top college in the state in the time, and also because Merideth had the full backing of the NAACP (Due to his involvement in it) and also was able to get the federal government and Pres. Kennedy involved.

ok......but why didn't MSU integrate before Ole Miss?
ETA: Al, don't even bother answering. Everyone knows that you'll just pull up some more completely irrelevant info because you just can't fathom "Good ol' MSU" was racist as frick back in the 1960's just every major school in the south.

These two don't belong in the same sentence.

Seconded. Al, do you honestly expect anybody to believe that Mississippi State so sorely wanted black students in the 1960's but couldn't get them to apply because mean old Ole Miss was too busy scaring them away?
Come. On.

Merideth wanted to attend a college in Mississippi with a Law school, Ole Miss was the only one that did.
State was an agricultural school as was Alcorn State for AAs. Thus all majors offered at State were offered at Alcorn.
Ole Miss had the ONLY Law School in the state and this is why the Federal government came in to help Merideth.

I have posted NOTING that says anything negative about Ole Miss. I have just stated what I know from what I learned in Mississippi History and the Civil Rights class I took in college.
