12 teams.
Top 4 get byes (that makes the current top 4 relevant to the discussion).
All 5 P5 champs get auto bids. That makes the conferences happy.
Then, pick the top 7 remaining teams. This covers Notre Dame when good, the occasional Cinderella like UCF/Boise, and usually the 2nd best team from every big conference. In reality you might just see one team from a big conference (say, Oklahoma), and more than 2 from another (say, Bama, UGA, LSU or Ohio St, Michigan, Penn St for example).
I like this...

agree this would be good, I just see it going to 8 with what I mentioned earlier. Commissioners and ADs want the CCGs to matter, now if a 12-0 Bama or Clemson was upset by a 8-4 Pitt or Georgia they would still get in with the 2 at large bids.

You think the rest of the country has SEC fatigue now? Just wait until the final four are Alabama, Georgia, Florida, and LSU.
Why did you mention us last

This particular year we have earned a bowl bid but a 6-6 team IMHO has not earned a bowl bid. But when you have 40 Bowl games , it gets completely watered down.
So Vandy would probably not get a bowl bid under my plan.
Nothing delusional about my plan. Additionally, I would cut the regular season to 10 games, eliminate the conference championship games.
$$$ Money Money , everybody cries, we would lose $$$$ with two less games. But what happened to sports being about the players and making their lives easier. Making things a little less about $$$.
Oh and one last thing, all of the schools share equally in the playoff revenue with the participants getting their expenses covered but nothing additional.

Well, of course it's "IMHO". So who's to say who's "earned" what? The bottom line is that if Vandy's game doesn't mean shite, neither does yours. You're 8 and fricking 4, and just like Vandy-Baylor, no one outside of Mississippi and Iowa really cares about your game. See how that works?

Well who outside Bama / OK cares about that game. See two can play that game.
But wait plenty of CFB fans around the country are general fans and will watch other teams play. Not just their own or the so called Teams of Royalty.
Not sure how old you but you evidently are just a youngster. Years back, prior to 1990, a team had to win 8 or more games just to be considered for a bowl. That was my comparison. Oh , and they only played 10-11 games as well.
So in other words you had to earn it.
Now under the current scenario, Vandy deserves to be in a bowl and I am glad for them. But my point remains (8-4 > 6-6) when all is fairly equal (schedule, conference etc. ).

Please tell me you're not this stupid. Or do you really think Clemson fans and the entire Notre Dame fan base nationwide have no interest in our game.
Seriously.

You want to talk smack? You're the one who suggested some fans' games are meaningless, not me.

Again, are you really this stupid? Youngster? I watched 6-4 and 6-5 Bama teams go to bowls and not win, maybe before you were born. How in the hell did we "earn" those bowl games I watched in 1969 and 1970?

Nice backtrack.

Youngster my arse. What an idiot. And a condescending one at that.

I saw those Bama teams as well. Try again.
My goodness are we testy. I just offered an opinion that the bowls are watered down with 40 of them in existence. My plan made for a great playoff scenario plus preserving some of the bowls for deserving teams outside the group.
I was just picking about the AL/OK game. Of course, people will be interested in that game as well as the State-Iowa though obviously in lesser numbers.
Peace out
:)

Never said that. I AM saying ALL 5 conf. winners SHOULD get automatic entry into the CFP's!

So they should be screwed out of a shot at the title just because of who they are?
