An extra week of rest and playing one less game is not fair to the other teams who had to play to get in.

Thats true but the main debate should be around how stupid it was in the first place to make a 4 team playoff when there are 5 major conferences, usually 1 good out large team, and then the fact that ND wont join a conf and still gets a spot. Thats 6 to 7 reasonable teams most years and only 4 spots. It was made to fail.
