Not to mention the Square tops any bar situation in Baton Rouge, minus the whole "we close at 1 am bull shite." That's what late-nights are for though.
what a load of crap. bars close on 1am on Friday nights and game nights. the rest of the time, it's midnight. the Square is completely dead on Sundays. They have 2 big festivals/year. it's the lamest collection of frat-boys trying desperately to one-up each other I've ever seen. anyone can have a "late-night". big deal. Oxford is full of guys like this who think they're better than everyone else. makes me sick. i lived there 5 years too long. for fricks sake, the town doesn't even sell cold beer. the cops are complete nazis. and the girls are just as pretty every where else.
*rant off*

Thats true. I lived in Dallas for 5 years, near H.P. Still, its great to not have to worry about zip codes and such when buying a house, and its great to feel comfortable walking around all over downtown at night.
I was in Dallas for the Cotton Bowl and I felt safe everywhere downtown. The only sketchy place was where we tailgated. I'll just say we were within walking distance of the fairgrounds. Really though, I know what you're saying, that's the charm of small towns.

From everything I've seen it's beautiful up that way. I wouldn't mind living there if it wasn't the heart of hog country.

i did for 5 years. i'm sooooo glad to be back home to real food, real people, and a real city with things to do other than shop for new penny-loafers.

Well ok, they do close midnight normally but that's due to not enough traffic. There isn't enough demand but on Fridays and Sat. to stay open that late. Too bad on Sat. blue laws take over, which is why the square is dead.
Also, anybody can have a late night sure, but we're ready to set up the late night. Just makes you move the party to more intimate settings. I like it that way personally, but I'm super introverted.
Thirdly, I hate frat douches. Just like all douches. My question though is why do you have such a big ax to grind about Oxford? You said you lived there for five years. Why? If it was that shitty why didn't you move?

What is there to do in Baton Rouge that is so much better? If you know, tell me, I'm kinda bored here.

Benton County is probably close to, if not majority non-native Arkansawyers.
There is an 80+ member Penn State Alumni chapter up here, for example.
But yeah, you'd pretty much have to give up local sports news. Surprisingly, some of the local news actually covers OU as a secondary school. They definitely cover OU 100 times more often than they cover Arkansas State.
I'd rather have more LSU and Ole Miss fans here than OU fans.

I had the best job/boss in the world. It was hard to leave that job. I had a good time there my first year and met some long-lasting friends but over time, that town was just too small. not enough to do if you weren't in a frat. i even had season tickets to the games at one time. let's face it, oxford prides themselves on being pretentious. they revel in it.

Being a neutral observer, I found the bar scene in Baton Rouge better. I like the game day atmosphere at Ole Miss the best among the two. When I go to Alabama-Ole Miss matchups, I hit the bars on Beale Street in Memphis the night before for any drinking.

Oxford prides it's self on being pretentious?
Damn it, you're right. I'm not even going to debate that, because it is true. There are many people not like that though, but those people are pretentious in other ways generally. I know I am. I revel in my own brand of arrogance, it just happens to be of a different breed than the normal Oxford arrogance.
Erm...back on point. I understand you're issues with Oxford. It is too small for my taste, but it's really not a bad town to spend four years-seven years in school at.

I haven't been to Oxford since I was legally old enough to drink, so I have admittedly formed my opinions about its night life based on the internet.
I'm suprised as hell to see that the bars close at midnight during the week and 1 a.m. on weekends. I also am getting that there are some blue laws that make getting cold beer difficult. In a college town? Blasphemy.
Well, here you can only buy beer at liquor stores. But its cold. You can't buy it on Sundays, but you can go to the bars and the local brew pub will sell you a jug of it. Or you can drive 30 minutes to Missouri for Sunday beer.
Our bars close at 2:00 am 7 days a week.
In Little Rock there are places open until 4 I think. In my section of Dallas it seems like the liquor stores closed at 9:00.
Blue laws are funny.

Let's see...I jog around the lakes every day. I go downtown every weekend. Live After Five on Fridays. I enjoy local Run Clubs. I ride in several parades. There's a gym, bar, and good food around every corner. I can ride my Mt. Bike in Hooper Road BREC, box downtown, and ride to work on the levee.
For example this weekend:
Friday - live after 5 and then hit Happy's
Sat - Tailgate, Spring Game, then hit Punchers for UFC fight
Sun - 1 hour dive to NO for FQ fest
next weekend I'm one hour from Festival Nationale and Jazz Fest
Sat

How? It's so spread out. Plus Tigerland is a hell hole. The Square has 10+ bars in walking distance. Besides the Levee and Library, all of them are worth stopping by if you're over 21 (the other two are for the 18+ crowd). You're missing out if you don't hit up the Square this time round.
Though Beale Street does blow it out of the water.

I'm really lazy. Like absurdly lazy, so you can keep all the working out stuff. The food thing is a plus though, Oxford is lacking in the food department. City Grocery is pretty good and Ajax makes a good burger, but really nothing else stands out. The thing you have to remember is how spoiled you get living in La. when it comes to food. Oxford doesn't have bad food, it's just not south Louisiana.

more bar choices(although the crowds at ole miss are better because they dont have to put up with as many flat billed douches), casinos, way more restaurants, better food, and better overall location(cities its close to like nola and Lafayette) and the fishing around here is amazing. Its also only 2 hours to the beach.
