Tough one...I think most will remember it as a team that should have never been in the game to begin with...but I don't buy this "LSU had a better season" crap. Bama whipped everyone on their schedule and they play in the SEC (schedules are just varying degrees as tough as hell) and split the 2 with LSU, one a close one and one a domination. I don't think 2011 Bama will rank up really high...the D might. For one game though, they were as good as any SEC BCS champ...it does take 2 to tango though. None of the gumps want to acknowledge that LSU didn't show up for the game...want it to be remembered as Bama beating down LSU at their best. I suppose if you are going to tell yourself that you have 14 national championships, you might as well tell yourself that also.

There is some confussion as to what is actually being asked. When arguing who should play in the National Championship, the same issue exist.

Are you judging this "greatest team ever" competition on talent or results. Alabama '09 played a tougher schedule, won the SEC over a very talented UF, and finished 14-0, and therefor had a more acclaimed season than this years team. However, I feel like this years team could beat the '09 team and had more talent and assuredly more depth.

You could make a claim (one I don't agree with because NT is trump IMHO) that LSU had a "better" season. However, the fact that Alabama did not have the opportunity to play more top 25 teams does not make them "worse" than LSU, and after the NT game, I'm sure that almost any LSU fan would agree that Alabama really was the better program this year.

Also, LSU should know a little something about back-assing into a national tittle game but then proving it deserved a shot...circa 2007.

They won't get credi because they got to the BCS with ESPN's help. They won fair and square but still had no business being there in the first place.

Comments like this make no sense. Bama proved ESPN, the voters, and the BCS right when they dismantled LSU.

I know it's embarrassing but you're going to have to come to terms with it.

Bama's D played against one offense that finished the season ranked higher than #86 in the country......

Again, how does a fan base with the only 2 loss BCS NT continue to tell anyone that they "backed" into a NT? We deserved to be in it and showed that by beating LSU 21-0. Y'all were lucky it was only that bad. That is one of the most pathetic all around performances I have ever seen by a "national championship" caliber team. The coaching was nonchalant and the players athletically out classed. I do not typically feel the need to trash talk, but that ill informed comment pressed my buttons.

Easy in 2007 we were SEC Champs and played in the SECCG unlike UGA which was the arguement then as to why UGA didn't get in.

A NC winner. And that's all that matters.

Oh, ok. That makes sense. I forgot all about the fact that you need to win your conference in order to play in the NT, I guess that's why ND isn't allowed in?

It'd be one thing if it had been between Bama and LSU getting in...I'd understand the SEC championship coming into play then. However, it was clear that the number 2 team in the nation was also the number 2 team in the SEC at the time.

Is this whole thing starting to become a little more clear now, or do we need to keep explaining it?

Gotta figure the regular season loss and controversy that hung over it will mar this team's rep. I think the offense was better than some people give it credit for, and the special teams redeemed themselves in Nola. Can't see it being mentioned as one of those 'greatest of all time' teams though.

Well, for starters, UGA had two losses. It makes way more sense to put a one loss team that did not win their conference in the NC game. Anyways, its funny hearing yall bitch. We begged, LSU got stomped. DWI.

I am not bitching at all. Bama won congrats!

I was just pointing out how ESPN changed the rules because they are all slobber all over saban.

Pointing out 2007 was the reason.

Again Congrats on the NC, we lost it sucks but it was still a great season to be and LSU fan.

I think this years team is better than the 09 team, but will be overlooked because of all the drama.
