I'm an atheist and could care less, but Auburn won't be hiring Freeze at any point. I think he's a great coach and could do well, but he's too close to Gus for my comfort. Tons of people brought up Petrino in 2012 and again last year, and he was begging for an interview before but he'd have split the fanbase and was never considered again after 2003.

Harsin is a very vanilla but a solid hire. Not many negatives other than where he's coached. A lot of those other names would've split the fanbase.

Harsin could prove to be a solid hire. Honestly, it's hard to predict because AU is hard to predict. I just give AU fans a little shite about it. Lol

First of all, there is no way I could come up with that list in a 100 years. Most would not be individuals that were even talked about by the Press, which was proof that people did not have a clue what was going on. After the fact was the only time most found out that those on the list were pursuing opportunities other then the job they had. Everyone was too focused on Steele.

Not at the time I posted it. Remember everyone was saying it was Steele and Steele only. Again, you do not understand what was going on at AU in December. There were Boosters that wanted Steele, but their were others (BOTs) who didn't along with the majority of the fans. Gogue didn't want to deal with the headaches associated with a Coaching Search, so he gave total authority to Greene. That is how AU hired Harsin.

The thing is, Auburn has NEVER made a big or splashy hire. Taking Tuberville from Ole Miss was about as big of a splash as you get at Auburn. I am glad that it wasn't a Rhett Lashlee, Will Muschamp, Kodi Burns, Gene Chizik hire again to keep things in the family.
There's a lot less pressure with a guy like Harsin because imagine if we did try to get a Stoops/Meyer type hire (we couldn't anyway), there would be so much immediate pressure and spotlight that it would be almost destined to fail.
I don't think there are many questions about Harsin as an Xs/Os guy, but we all know he will need time to get his name out. I feel good about the veteran staff he's hired as many of them have been successful in and around the SEC.
And just like most of our hires, I don't think there were many people outside the top brass that knew how that search went. That's just the way Auburn operates.
