Fulmer no doubt should have been fired after losing to Vandy in 05, as Dooley was last year. Hamilton was absolutely incompetent though.
01 LSU was the day Tennessee football died if you ask most of our fans. The product since then has been absolutely piss poor.
Vandy is my second favorite team in the SEC fwiw, glad to see some support for what is going on there. Its been a nice story in the midst of our shitstorm.

well i disagree as i think yall did the right thinking by keeping Fulmer after 2005. 2006 was a good season and yall won the east in 2007 and damn near beat the eventual National Champions in Atlanta.
but nonetheless i appreciate it

I think the moment this thread was started was actually the true downfall.

Vandy will literally never be on the level of football as UT.
It will take however long ago football started TIMES 2 and then both schools reversing roles for that entire time period before Vandy can have a voice in this.
I ain't hating on Vandy. Why would I? I also empathize with your position. If i REALLY were a Vandy fan, I'd do EVERYTHING in my power to help switch the momentum. But at the end of the day, Vandy is just Vandy. And UT is a giant, and right now they aren't sleeping... they're f'king hibernating. And it's awesome.
The OP subject (your subject) question was actually brilliant imho... who the hell knows why UT is sucking a-hole? I really would prefer that to be a mystery. The fewer people that know, the longer the misery for them will last!
Long live mystery!

But i think this date also serves as a watershed moment for another program: the beginning of the rise of Vanderbilt's program, Ever since the programs have headed in complete opposite directions. We have reached levels that we couldn't dream of reaching in the 60 or so years before. I feel last year we pulled even with UT and this coming season with Coach Franklin's (best coach in the state) leadership, we will pull ahead for good.
hot damn, frick. i love vandy fans. it's like they discovered nooky and are realizing how great it is.

If this is true and your blood really is Orange and the UT football program is dead, how exactly are you still alive?

This ^^^^^
Fulmer has let his team, and his body, get totally fricking out of hand, fat and lazy, like their leader.
5-6 in 2005, 5-7 in 2009. But honestly it probably started more around 2002 with those prima donna classes they signed in 98 and 99. They got their asses absolutely kicked by Maryland in the Peach Bowl and it was a sign of very un-Tennessee like things to come imho. They had a lot of off field problems right about then as well and they continued-on until Fulmer was forced to resign.

It's easily the '01 SECCG. A lot of people look back and say Miami was without a doubt the best team that year, but going into championship weekend a lot of people thought Tennessee had the horses to compete with anyone. They had just beaten Florida, a team that everyone thought was destined to beat Miami in Pasadena, and were poised for an easy win over LSU on their way to the national championship.
They lost that game 31-20 and Tennessee football was on a steady decline from that day forward. The bottom finally dropped out in '08 and nothing has been the same since.

They started out #3 that season.

Didn't Tennessee have an insane recruiting class in the mid-2000's that led people to believe they were "back"?

I agree with that. 01 still had some good leaders like Jason Witten, Will Overstreet, Travis Stephens, and Fred Weary. Once those guys left, there was no accountability in the program. The 02 and 03 teams were extreme underachievers.

And that's when Spurrier and Meyers were hired. Obviously Meyers surged UF back to the top and SC under Spurrier has certainly left it's dents on UT's fall simply because they can't come in and cherry pick the best talent out of the Carolinas anymore.

Probably talking about 05 or 07.
#2 class in 2002
#4 class in 2005
#3 class in 2007
#10 class in 2010
#8 class in 2011
Every one of those classes busted. Every single one.

They started out #4 in 02 and got Zook'd at home, haven't been the same since.

No wonder UT was ranked #3 going into the 2005 season. That's seems like it'd be a great mesh of top Veteran and top Freshman talent.

07 class had like 5 5 stars, or something crazy like that

Well, I know some Vol fans who will claim that when they lost the state of SC, recruiting-wise, their downfall began. But that really started with Holtz when he beat them out for Squeaky Watson and a couple of other kids, and Spurrier and Dabo have just slammed the door since. The three or four SC kids UT signed this year were ECU commits, none of them offered by either SC or CU.
But in their day, with Chavez in charge of recruiting this state, his home state, they absolutely dominated taking the best players out of here year after year.

South Carolina being arguably the worst program in the SEC during the 1990s didn't hurt Tennessee's recruiting efforts in the state either.
