Reading comprehension is skrong in this one.

In OP's defense, the thread title is poorly worded.

quote:

When has a team ever beat a Top 5 team twice in a season

It should have been worded:

When has a team ever beat the same Top 5 team twice in a season

Very rare for the NCAA past to play 2 games against a team that was top 5 both games, but with more teams in a Playoff now, it could become more frequent.

This is my view. The divisional systems for title games and bowl pairings historically have made it logistically impossible to get multiple top 5 matchups. Wiki has a page for college football rematches and their are some interesting stats in there. They don't fit perfectly but are close.

Wiki Remataches

1994 - #7 FSU ties #4 Florida and then next week beats #5 Florida in the Sugar Bowl

2003 - #2 Miami beats #5 Florida State in the regular season and then wins against #9 FSU in the Orange Bowl.
