When did Vandy become the dominant football program in Tennessee?

It's pretty much a given today in the world of college athletics that Vandy is a much more solid program than UT year in and year out if you ask the average SEC fan in general.
Tennessee is more adept at mimicking an ACC program without the academic notoriety.
When people under 40 think about football prowess in that state today it's only natural that Vandy comes to mind.
The Commodores have come into their own and overshadow the ugly orange of yesteryear...
