The internet will esplod if we beat Kentucky Tuesday. Happy state fans versus ones who are pissed that Stans saved his job.

Beating Kentucky didn't save Pel his job.

Higher standards and expectations, obvious answer...

Rumor is Bailey Howell is running the search committee and is close friends with Jeff Van Gundy. Jeff was seen in Starkville eating a MugShot burger earlier in the day. Word is that Jeff only wants to coach for about 3 more years, so if we can get an assistant to be a coach in waiting(supposedly Shaka - thus thread title), he would agree.

I don't see how you can fire the most successful coach in your programs history for doing the things that made him your most successful coach.

Bobby Bowden disagrees

If we miss the Tourney- that makes only 2 trips in the last 7 years- and one of those was because we won the SEC Tourney in a down SEC...

Then you factor in lack of discipline and the AD having to force him to make the players lift weights

We can do better

Beating Kentucky more than likely secures a spot in the tourney, saving Stans his job. You have to be the most clueless poster on this site. Do you just click on the last page of a thread and read the last post and then respond to three words from different sentences?

This worries me more than anything. If we do fire Stan I want a solid hire. Not a retreaded HC like Tubby Smith, not someone with State ties like Kermit Davis or Butch Pierre.

We need a Gregg Marshall or Shaka Smart type coach.

Ask him if ok to fwd. I don't necessarily agree with everything he says, but I respect his privacy.

we havent made a hire like that since we fired LT- why would we suddenly start?

We havent conducted a coaching search in basketball in over 30 years- it's time

You have only been to the tourney, what? 10 times since it has been in existence?

So you want to fire a coach who has the most wins in your programs history, the 2nd most successful coach in the SEC the past decade behind Donovan for doing something you always do, not make the NCAA tournament?

Tubby Smith

I would like this hire. It would remind me of a Jackie Sherrill type hire. He's won a NC. If he were successful, he probably wouldn't go anywhere. It'd be a splash hire. Slam dunk, IMO. Having said that, I don't think we have a snowball's chance in hell to land him.

Tubby Smith currently had a 17-10' record, hasn't been in the dance in a couple of years and is 60

No thanks

we have qualified 13 times- 3 times the Governor wouldnt let us play aginst the darkies

Just because we didnt go the NCAA Tourney in the 70's or 80''s doesnt mean we cant do it regularly now- its a new day in the SEC

This isnt football- State is actually one of the top 6 programs in basketball- We have more SEC titles, more tourney titles, than the bottom half of the SEC

Alot of SEC schools dont have a great history when it comes to basketball- Hell, Tenn still hasnt made a FF- yet we have. I think we have more SEC titles than them.

The best way to know you need to make a change, is when your rivals dont want you too- you guys would still be telling us Crooms needs more time had we not fired him.

Tubby is a good coach, but he's a terrible recruiter. He wasn't able to sustain Pitino's success at UK for that very reason.

So you win the SECT regularly? That is the only portion of making the tourney that has to do with the conference, after that you are judged against 300 other schools.

You are right this isn't football, it is the big3 and the doesn't matter 11.

Crooms beat Arkansas that one time, the first time in a decade for your school.

Not scared of Mullen, glad you have him as is the rest of the SEC-West, except Ole Miss.

Kentucky, Florida, State.

Going on the last decade. Now it will be Missouri added in there.
