My niece, who has been working at UAB Children's for less than 2 years and in that time has had one car stolen and a second burglarized would also like to tell you not all those people packing downtown Birmingham at night are there for the restaurants.

That's unfortunate. I've been in Birmingham for over 20 years, and lived in Southside/Highland Park for 4 years. Never had a single incident happen to me in my time here. And I go downtown rather frequently. I'm not saying it's 100% safe, but the incidents that happen are not as widespread as some perceive.

Highland Bar and Grill won awards.

Not my kind of place, but others may enjoy.

Is Nikki’s still around?

If you like golf, RTJ has 2 locations close by, Oxmoor Valley and Ross Bridge.

Highland's is great, but pricey.

Nikki's is open and is good food, but there are other good Meat and threes in town. Johnny's is great, but only open until 2:30. The Lakeview area has some great restaurants and bars.

Plus Mountain Brook cougars. I'm sure there is a cougar bar somewhere around.

That would be the Grand Bohemian Hotel bar in Mt Brook.

Birmingham has some great food/bars downtown. My favorite bar, the atomic, just recently close but another is opening up in their location.

Downtown has paramount (great sports bar with A+ wings), pizitz food hall, carrigans, el barrio, bamboo on 2nd, Helen, la fresca, queens park, Collins bar, district brewing, the essential and I’m leaving out a lot more.

Not for Mt Brook cougars. That's for the 40-somethign suburban divorcees with tramp stamps and/or tats on their gunt. They'll try to recruit you to Church Of the Highlands though.

Good Lord, this is one of the most spot-on Birmingham comments ITT, and I'm here for it.

6 shot & killed in Bham this past weekend. 17 yr old being the last 1 murdered late last night.
Brings the 2021 homicide list up to 120.
Long as those attending the bowl game don't wander off to the warfare areas of Bham, they'll be fine.

I started to recommend Hogan's but it's been closed long enough that I didn't think anyone would know what I was talking about.

My wife smashed a beer bottle over a guy's head at Hogan's early in our marriage. She was out with girlfriends and guy wouldn't take the hint she wasn't interested.

Grey Bar and Courtyard are two other 280 hotspots for older women of ill repute. My divorced buddy regales with me with all kinds of tales of his conquests, including some with married women.

Are you old enough to remember when it was Hogan's hideaway downtown? Or remember Norms, JTRoberts or Cafe deVille?

it’s a city. This happens everywhere.

Go look up the FBI or ALEA crime statistics and you’ll see in happens far more frequently in some places than it does in others. Want to guess which end of the spectrum you’ll find Birmingham?

I've heard those names, but I didn't move to Birmingham until late 99 so I think they were long gone by then. Definitely heard people talk abut Cafe DeVille. Before I moved here, I only knew of the bars in 5 Points South.

Saw's BBQ in Avondale should be on the list, for sure.

Damn son I’ve been craving that grits n greens plate from SAWs Soul Kitchen for a minute. Pairs nice with a fresh Spring Street Saison from Avondale.

Bham has got so much food to offer

The majority of the crime occurs in pockets of Birmingham that a typical Rant poster will never find themselves.
